Women's Basketball - Wesleyan Uses 19-0 Run to Beat Bears

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/6/08)--Senior Ali Fourney had 16 of her season-high 26 points and Wesleyan used a 19-0 run late in the game enroute to 61-43 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.
Fourney had 11 of the Cardinals 19 points in the 19-0 run as Wesleyan turned a 42-40 lead into a 61-40 lead with 2:57 left before Coast Guard had three free throws at the end of the game.
Coast Guard sophomore Allison Majcher’s basket with 10:48 left cut the Cardinals lead to 42-40, but that would be the Bears last field goal of the game.
Graduate student Lucy Sprung added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Wesleyan (5-2), which led 31-28 at halftime.
Junior Melissa Martinelli led Coast Guard with 23 points while junior Leslie Hunt added a career-high 12 points. Senior Chanel Lee had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Wesleyan shot 38.8 percent (26-27) from the field while making two of nine from 3-point range.
Coast Guard (0-6) shot 33.3 percent (16-48) from the floor, but just 5 of 22 in the second half, after shooting 42.3 percent (11-26) in the first 20 minutes. The Bears hit two of 11 from 3-point range in the game.
