While the rest of America was celebrating Halloween, the USCGA Bears and MIT Beavers were staying away from the jittery effects of sugary candy.

This past weekend, the two teams battled here on the Bears home soil. All of the matches (air, women’s air, standard, sport, and free) were close. Coach Brubaker (the Bears new head coach who is a retired Captain, USCG) referred to the standard pistol match as the real “heartbreaker of the day” with the CGA falling only four points short of victory over MIT.

Many of the Bears’ shooters shot personal records. In addition, with certain shooters right on the border of shooting national qualifying scores, the pistol team is clearly improving. This was also the first match for several of the team’s fourth class shooters, one of whom shot a 507 in air at his first match.

At the rate the Coast Guard Academy’s team has been improving, they can be assured that their efforts will be rewarded in the near future. Stay posted for results of the Bears next match as they travel this weekend to Navy.
