Steve Eldridge was named NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/6/08)--Coast Guard Academy head coach Steve Eldridge has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s cross country Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to second place finish at the NEWMAC Championship. Coast Guard also won the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.

Eldridge, in his 40th season as the Bears head coach, has led his team to second place finish at all 11 NEWMAC Championships, each time placing second to MIT.

This is the first NEWMAC Coach of the Year honor won by Eldridge.

The Bears had four runners (Mike Haas, Mike Persun, Zach Henninghausen and Andrew Price) earn All-conference honors with a top 14 finish at the championship race.

Coast Guard won its second NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award, the conference began giving out the Sportsmanship Award in 2006, which was also given to the Bears in that inaugural season.
