Krysta Rohde, 2008 ICSA Women's Singlehanded Nationals 2nd place Ithaca, NY--(10/27/08)--Krysta Rohde, a sophomore from Richmond Hill, GA, finished 2nd at the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Nationals hosted by Cornell University this past weekend.
Returning as the defending champion after winning the event in 2007, Rohde was hoping for a top three finish in what was sure to be a very competitive fleet.
Rohde sailed very well over the course of the three day regatta, finishing top-5 in 12 of 18 races and winning the final race of the regatta when it mattered most.
Although Annie Haeger from Boston College had already clinched the national title, racing came down to the wire in the final races for 2nd-4th places in the regatta. Going into the last race, Rohde found herself in 3rd, one point behind Jane Macky from Yale and 5 points ahead of Maggie Shea from Connecticut College. Rohde went on the win the last race while Macky finished 10th and Shea finished 13th, solidifying her 2nd place position in the regatta.
Haeger won with 45 points, Rohde finished 2nd with 95 points, Macky finished 3rd with 103 points and Shea finished 4th with 112 points.
The Coed team, ranked 18th in the Sailing World National Poll, finished 3rd out of 17 teams at the Oberg Trophy, a three division regatta hosted by MIT and Northeastern. Sam Ingham '11 and Kirstin Haas '10 finished 2nd in A Division with 77 points. Jon Duffet '11, Jenn Hom '09, and Cezar Gomez '10 finished 10th in B Division with 154 points. Ian Oviatt '10 and Tanya Cuprak '11 finished 3rd in C Division with 113 points.
The Oberg trophy looks to be a great warm up for next weekend when the Coed team will look to qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship by earning one of three remaining berths at the Schell Trophy at MIT. At the same time, the Women's Team, ranked 12th in the Sailing World National Poll, will compete to qualify for the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship by earning a berth from the Urn Trophy hosted by Harvard. |
