 Senior co-captain Mary Bitzer had seven kills as the Bears won for the third straight time. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/7/08)--Senior Nicole Gurr had four consecutive aces to close out the match and finished the night with 10 kills, eight digs and seven aces as Coast Guard beat Clark 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-8) in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Bears, who have won three straight, led 8-7 in the first set before scoring eight of nine points to take a comfortable 16-8 lead before winning the opening set 25-13.
Coast Guard raced out to a 14-4 lead in the second set and won it 25-14 before closing out the match with a 25-8 win in the third and final set.
Senior Mary Bitzer had seven kills, freshman Nicole Johnson added five kills, junior Carin Sweeney added nine digs and three blocks while sophomore Ashley Bullard led the Bears with 19 assists.
Junior Maritza Fair had seven kills and eight digs while freshman Amira Tranchell also had seven kills for Clark (7-9, 1-4), which had its three-match winning streak snapped.
Coast Guard (8-8, 3-2) has won eight of its last 10. |
