Men's Soccer - Deneen Named NEWMAC Player of the Week
Peter Deneen earned NEWMAC Player of the Week honors as his goal lifted the Bears past #15 Wheaton last week.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/6/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior forward Peter Deneen, who scored the game winning goal in the Bears 4-3 double overtime upset win over #15 Wheaton last week, has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Deneen, who led Coast Guard with nine goals last season, had not scored all of this season until his game winner with 3:21 left in double overtime on Friday night, the Bears only game of the week.
The Bears beat the Lyons, the three-time defending NEWMAC regular season and tournament champions, for the first time since the 2000 season. Wheaton was 7-0-1 against Coast Guard since the 2000 season.
Coast Guard (6-4, 2-1) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win and pulled into a first place tie with MIT and Springfield in the conference with six points.
