Volleyball - Bears Celebrate Homecoming With Two Victories |

 Nicole Gurr led the Bears to a pair of wins over Mitchell and Salve Regina. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/4/08)--Senior Nicole Gurr had 21 kills, 18 digs, 10 aces and eight blocks leading Coast Guard to a pair of wins over Mitchell and Salve Regina on Homecoming Weekend.
Coast Guard beat Mitchell 3-0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-5) as Gurr had 10 kills, 11 digs, seven aces and two blocks. Junior Carin Sweeney had six kills and two aces while junior Courtney Wolf added six kills and three blocks for the Bears. Ashley Bullard led Coast Guard with 17 assists.
The Bears (7-8) also beat Salve Regina 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-16) with Gurr recording 11 kills, seven digs, six blocks and three aces.
Senior Mary Bitzer had seven kills and five digs, while Sweeney added seven digs, four blocks and two aces for Coast Guard. Bullard led the team with 11 assists while sophomore Heather Watka chipped in with 10 assists in the win.
Senior Nealyn Dunlop led Salve Regina with seven kills while freshman Jessica Meyer had five digs.
Salve Regina (8-8) beat Mitchell in the other match of the day 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-10) as junior Deanna Salter led the way with seven kills and senior Amanda Harmon had eight digs for the Seahawks.
Junior Heather Renae Powers led Mitchell (4-7) wtih four kills while classmate Stephanie Davis had eight digs and two aces in the loss to Salve Regina. |
