Football - Yurovich Earns NEFC Co-Defensive Weekly Honors
Senior linebacker Brian Yurovich was honored by the NEFC for his performance in the win over Westfield State.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/29/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior linebacker Brian Yurovich has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
Yurovich had 10 tackles, seven solo, one for loss, a pass breakup and a key interception early in the fourth quarter on the Coast Guard 13-yard line preventing Westfield State from taking the lead in a game that was tied 13-13 at the time.
Coast Guard won its 15th straight NEFC Bogan Division game beating Westfield State 16-13 when freshman Jacob Shackleford kicked 32-yard field goal with 16 seconds left, his first collegiate field goal attempt.
The win was the first of the season for Coast Guard which is now 1-2 overall and avoided starting 0-3 for the first time since 1983.
Yurovich, who is second on the team with 26 tackles this season, shared the weekly honor with Fitchburg State freshman defensive back Sean Golden.
