Offshore Sailing - Thames Yacht Club Commodore’s Trophy
CGA's J44 Glory
New London, CT--(9/7/08)--On Sunday September 7 the offshore sailing team sent three crews into Fishers Island Sound to compete in the annual Thames Yacht Club Commodore’s Trophy Regatta. Glory and Ricochet returned for a third weekend of action, joined by Arctic Tern, crewed entirely by third class cadets who have proven themselves over the past year on the team. All three boats raced with spinnakers, with Glory and Ricochet in division 1 and Arctic Tern in division 2. Conditions were the best the team has seen this season with winds between ten and twenty knots and clear skies. Ricochet sailed well to defeat Glory for the second week running and earn a third in class finish. Glory and Arctic Tern finished fourth in their respective classes to round out a strong weekend for the bears sailing team with all three boats in the top half of their fleets. The team is looking forward to the coming weekend when four Academy boats will compete in the annual Fall Offsoundings Regatta. A highlight of the fall racing schedule every year.
