United States Coast Guard Academy - Department of Athletics - Volleyball - Bears Drop Fourth Straight to Open Season

HAVERFORD, PA.--(8/31/08)--Coast Guard dropped its final two matches at the Haverford Invitational on Sunday to drop to 0-4 on the season.

In the first match of the day, host Haverford, ranked 18th nationally, beat the Bears 3-1 (15-25, 22-25, 25-14, 18-25). Senior All-America Nicole Gurr, who was named to the All-tournament team, led the Bears with 18 kills and 18 digs while freshman Kiley Johnson had three aces.

Coast Guard lost to St. Mary's of Maryland later in the day 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 18-25, 18-25). Gurr again led the way, this time with 17 kills and 10 blocks to go with 10 digs while sophomore Jessica Anderson led the Bears with 21 digs.
