Men's Soccer - Cameron Goal Leads Bears to Opening Day Win
Senior tri-captain Thomas Cameron scored the only goal in the season opening win.
HENNIKER, N.H.--(8/30/08)--Senior tri-captain Thomas Cameron scored the only goal of the game halfway through the second half to lift Coast Guard to a 1-0 win ofer New England College in the season opener for both teams.
The two teams would battle closely through the first half of play as both teams would muster just two shots on goal. Coast Guard would have several opportunities early in the second half but the Pilgrim defense would hold strong keeping the Bears off the board.
Cameron would break the scoreless tie striking a pass from sophomore Matt Zangle past the NEC keeper at the 65:26 mark, putting the Bears up 1-0. NEC would look to try and create some offense late but the Coast Guard defense would hold strong keeping the Pilgrims off the board. The assist by Zangle was the first of his career.
Picking up the shutout win in goal for Coast Guard was junior Tim Olah, who finished with three saves. In goal for New England College was Jon Mayo who finished the afternoon with five saves.
