NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/22/08)--Coast Guard Academy’s Dan Rose has been named the 2008 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) New England Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. The USTFCCCA honors the top men’s track and field performers as well as the top coaches in eight Division III regions across the country.
Coast Guard had a tremendous season as the men’s team went unbeaten in the regular season in both the indoor and outdoor season for the first time since 1969.
The Bears also had an excellent championship season, highlighted by a third-place finish at the New England Division III Championships and a second place finish at the NEWMAC championship. Senior Chris Hunt (hammer) and classmate Steve Blum (decathlon and javelin), who both graduated on Wednesday, qualified for the NCAA Championships this weekend in Wisconsin.
Rose is in his 11th season as head coach of both the men’s and women’s track programs at the Coast Guard Academy.
