PITTSFIELD, MASS.--(4/27/08)--The Men's Varsity 8 raced twice on Saturday at the regatta on Lake Onota under cloudy skies, showers and extremely variable wind conditions.
In the morning race, the CGA men lost to Williams by just over two seconds seconds and finished ahead of Bates by one second, finishing in a time of 6:30.1. Later in the morning Grand finals, the Bears fell off the pase early and finished fourth behind Williams, Marist and Ithaca, in that order, finishing in a time of 6:40.1, 15 seconds out of first.
The Men;s second varsity 8 easily won their morning race, leading wire-to-wire, in a time of 6:24.3 (posting the fastest time of the day of all boats) against Ithaca, Williams, Bates and Tufts, in that order.
The Men's Novice team found themselves in a real battle this weekend, and learned a lot while turning in a solid performance taking third place in a time of 6:44.5, 13 seconds behind the winner Williams and a length behind second place Marist while beating Ithaca by over 12 seconds.
The Men's Varsity Four, seeded #1 in the NE Fours poll this past week, had a disapppointing outing losing to both Marist and Tufts, in a time of 7:41.1; 13 seconds off the pace set by the winner.
The Academy men will travel to Worcester, Mass. this coming weekend to compete in the New England Rowing Championships on Saturday, May 3 and the New England Fours Championships on Sunday, May 4. The full schedule, as well as directions to the venue, can be found at www.qra.org.
