Jenn Proctor and Linden Dahlkemper sailing at Boston College. New London, CT--(4/14/08)--The Coast Guard Academy sailing team had a very successful weekend, sailing well in multiple disciplines. The Women’s Team finished 4th at the Joseph Duplin Trophy Intersectional hosted by Boston College. The regatta was sailed over two days with almost every kind of weather imaginable thrown at the sailors. Weather from rain, to fog, to sunshine made for difficult conditions on Dorchester Bay. In A-Division, Krysta Rohde ’11 and Kirstin Haas ’10 finished 4th with 40 points. Jenn Proctor ’11 and Linden Dahlkemper ’08 finished 3rd in B-Division with 39 points. The team combined for 79 points, just five points behind Dartmouth in 3rd and six behind Boston College in 2nd. The University of Rhode Island won the regatta with 60 points. The Women’s Team will travel to Yale this weekend for the Women’s New England Championship.
The Offshore Team traveled to the Naval Academy for the Navy Spring Keelboat Promotional Regatta, where they proved that they were the team to beat. On Saturday the sailors experienced similar conditions to the Women’s Team in Boston, with unpredictable shifts in the wind and weather. Despite the tough conditions, Coast Guard finished 1st, 3rd, and 1st in the three races on Saturday. Quoting the official regatta report, on Sunday, “Coast Guard continued their dominating form, winning 3 of 4 races to win the regatta.” Coast Guard won with 11 points. Sailing for the Bears were Trip Fernandez ’11, Jake McQuillan ‘11, Eric Johnson’ 10, and Cameron Welicka ‘11. Rounding out the top three were Navy in 2nd with 17 points and Duke in 3rd with 26 points. The Offshore Team will return to the Naval Academy this weekend for the Intrepid Trophy Match Race.
