 The team had a 3.11 GPA following the spring semester. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(8/11/11)--The Coast Guard Academy women’s track and field team named was named a 2011 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team by the the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
A total of 111 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.1 or better.
Coast Guard had a team GPA of 3.11 to earn the honor.
Bridgewater (Va.) reported the highest cumulative team GPA among Division III women’s track & field teams with a post-spring 2011 semester tally of 3.63. Colorado College and Saint Mary’s (Minn.) followed with GPAs of 3.60 and 3.57, respectively.
The MIAC led all of the nation’s leagues with eight of its institutions reaching All-Academic status. The SCAC and WIAC followed with seven apiece.

 Abby Bishop placed sixth in the heptathlon to earn All-ECAC honors. BETHLEHEM, PA.--(5/20/11)--Freshman Abby Bishop placed seventh in the heptathlon to earn All-ECAC at the ECAC Division III Championships at Moravian College.
Bishop finished with 3,722 points. She won the 200 meters during the heptathlon with a time of 26.52 and placed third in the 800 meters (2:35.12), her two best events of the heptathlon.

 Emily Trudeau earned All-New England honors in two events. CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(5/7/11)--Freshman Emily Trudeau was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38 meters, 4.25 inches and she placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 34.08 meters to earn a pair of All-New England honors at the New England Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships at MIT.
Coast Guard was tied for 16th of the 29 teams at the meet finishing with eight points while MIT won with 141.5 points.
Freshman Abby Bishop placed sixth in the heptathlon to earn All-New England honors finishing with a school-record 4,002 points. |

 Katie Schumacher was one of three named to the NEWMAC All-Academic team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/5/11)--Coast Guard had three student-athletes named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Track and Field All-Academic team.
Junior Katie Schumacher (Civil Engineering) along with sophomores Julia Kane (Electrical Engineering) and Leigh Sowers (Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering) were named to the All-Academic team for the first time.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2010 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season. |
