(photo by Jeff Bartlett) NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/22/08)--Steve Blum won the shot put (41-3) and the javelin (183-04) while Carl Luxhoj won both the long jump (22-1.5 feet) and the triple jump (43-11.75 feet) as Coast Guard won all but four events to easily win its season opening five-team Invitational.
The Bears had 364.50 points while Conn. College was a distant second with just 65 points.
Also winning for Coast Guard were, Thomas Adams in the 400 meters (51.11), Jason Erickson in the 800 meters (1:59.77), Eric Laurel in the 1,500 meters (4:09.67), Kyle Coleman in the 400 meter hurdles (57.47), Beau Belanger in the high jump (6-1.25), Nate Rhodes in the pole vault (13-5.75), Carl Stokes in the discus (129-11) and Chris Hunt in the hammer (157-6)
The 4x100 relay team of Cale Cooper, Paul Sprenger, Adams and Sam England (44.20) and the 4x400 relay team of Erickson, Matt Romano, Joe Chevalier and England were also winners.

(photo by Jeff Bartlett) NEW LONDON, CONN.--(6/28/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior Steve Blum has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men’s track & field/cross country third team as selected by the College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA).
Blum, who has a 3.5 GPA as a Civil Engineering major, earned All-America honors in the javelin with a fourth place finish outdoors as well as competing in the decathlon at the NCAA Division III Championships. |

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(6/11/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior Steve Blum has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I men’s track & field/cross country first team as selected by the College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA).

 Steve Blum earned All-America honors for the first time in his career. (Photo by Jeff Bartlett) OSH KOSH, WISC.--(5/26/07)--Junior Steve Blum and senior Mike Flint both earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin Osh Kosh.
Blum won the first flight of the javelin with a throw of 190 feet 10 inches, which was his best to place him fourth overall earning All-America honors for the first time in his career.
Flint, a two-time All-America in indoor track is now a two-time All-America in outdoor track as he placed eighth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:56.44. Flint was seventh last season to earn All-America honors. |
