NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/7/07)--The Coast Guard Academy placed 13 student athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Spring Academic All-conference team.
The men’s track and field team led the way with six members, the women’s track and field team had three student athletes honored, baseball had two named to the team while softball and women’s crew each had one named to the All-Academic team.
Senior Chad Beck, juniors Chris Musselwhite and Matt Romano along with sophomores Mike Haas, Mike Persun and Kyle Richter were named from the men’s track team. |

 Steve Blum won both the decathlon and the javelin. (Photo by Jeff Bartlett) SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(5/5/07)--Steve Blum won a pair of events and and Zach Geyer captured the high jump as the Coast Guard Academy men's track and field team finished sixth in the New England Division III Championship at Springfield College.
The Bears finished with 60.3 points while Williams College won the event with 137 points.
Blum, a junior, successfully defended his New England title in the decathlon with 6,219 points, and that total was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. Blum also won the javelin with a throw of 185 feet, 10 inches while Geyer cleared 6-5 1/2 to win a gold medal in the high jump. |

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/2/07)--The Coast Guard Academy men’s track and field team won the inaugural New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) sportsmanship award as voted on by the players of each team as the major awards were announced.
Coast Guard, which hosted and placed third at the NEWMAC Championshps, won the award which is given to the team that most closely demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct. |

 Chris Hunt won the NEWMAC championshipin the hammer with a throw of 167-5. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/28/07)--Sam England won the 400 meter hurdles and was part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team leading host Coast Guard to a third place finish at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.
England won the 400 meters hurdles with a time of 55.30 and teamed with Jason Erickson, Matt Romano and Thomas Adams to win the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:22.08.
Also winning NEWMAC championships for the Bears were Steve Blum in the javelin (181-9) and Chris Hunt in the hammer (167-5). |
