(photo by Jeff Bartlett) NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/20/07)--Four Coast Guard Academy athletes were invited to compete at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Osh Kosh beginning on Thursday.
Seniors Mike Flint and Zach Geyer along with juniors Steve Blum and Chris Hunt will represent the Coast Guard Academy this season.
Flint, who earned All-America honors with a seventh place finish last season in the 1,500 meters, will again run the 1,500 meters while Geyer will compete in the high jump.
Blum will compete in both the javelin and the decathlon while Hunt will throw the hammer. Blum was ninth in the decathon at last season's NCAA Championships. |

 Mike Flint finished 3rd in the 1,500 meters despite having his appendix removed three weeks ago. HANOVER, N.H.--(5/12/07)--Coast Guard placed 13th of 36 teams and third of all the Division III schools at the All-New England Championships consisting of athletes from Divisions I, II and III held at Dartmouth College.
Earning All-New England honors and scoring points for the Bears were Mike Flint, who just weeks after having his appendix removed, finished third in the 1,500 meters (3:49.75), Zach Geyer tied for sixth in the high jump (6 feet, 5 inches) while Chris Hunt was seventh in the hammer (171-5).
Coast Guard finished with 20.5 points. Steve Blum accounted for 10 of those points as he won the decathlon on Friday. |

(Photo by Jeff Bartlett) HANOVER, N.H.--(5/11/07)--Junior Steve Blum continued his dominance in the decathlon this Spring as he captured the All-New England Decathlon Championship at Dartmouth College. The All-New England Championships consist of athletes from Divisions I, II and III.
Blum, who finished with 6,460 points edged Fielding Pagel from Tufts by 12 points for the championship. Blum won the shot put (43 feet, 0.25 inches), high jump (6 feet, 4.25 inches), the discus (131 feet, 11 inches) and the javelin (181-11).
Earlier in the season, Blum won the Holy Cross Decathlon, a field of 22 athletes from All-Divisions and he won the Division III New England Decathlon for the second straight season.

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/7/07)--The Coast Guard Academy placed 13 student athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Spring Academic All-conference team.
The men’s track and field team led the way with six members, the women’s track and field team had three student athletes honored, baseball had two named to the team while softball and women’s crew each had one named to the All-Academic team.
Senior Chad Beck, juniors Chris Musselwhite and Matt Romano along with sophomores Mike Haas, Mike Persun and Kyle Richter were named from the men’s track team. |
