 Carl Luxhoj earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(8/8/11)--Carl Luxhoj, who graduated from the Coast Guard Academy in May, has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 200 student-athletes representing 72 institutions compose the group.
Luxhoj, who majored in Marine and Environmental Sciences, placed fifth in a field of 13 competitors at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships to earn All-America honors for the third time in his career.
Luxhoj's first jump of 48 feet 1.75 inches in the trials, earned him a spot in the finals where he posted his second best jump of 47 feet 9.75 inches.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark in an individual or relay event at some point in either indoor or outdoor seasons. Participation in an NCAA Championship also fulfills the athletic component of All-Academic qualification.

 Dan Rose stepped down as track coach after 15 years. He will enter his fourth season as Director of Physical Education. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(7/22/11)--Dan Rose, head coach of the Coast Guard Academy men’s and women’s track team for the past 15 years, will step aside to concentrate on his role as Director of Physical Education which he took over in the summer of 2008.
Ethan Brown, an assistant coach with the program for the past three years and the women’s cross country coach, will take over as head coach.
Rose coached 15 All-Americans and 41 NCAA qualifiers during his tenure and he was named the Division III New England Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2008 and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in 2006. |

 Trevor Siperek was the top Coast Guard finisher as he placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase. BETHLEHEM, PA.--(5/20/11)--Freshman Adam Scalesse was fourth in the 110 hurdles and broke the school record and placed fifth in the 400 hurdles to earn All-ECAC honors in both events at the ECAC Division III Championships at Moravian College.
Scalesse posted a time of 14.78 in the 100 hurdles just off his school-record of 14.73 set during the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship this season. He ran a school-record 53.84 in the 400 hurdles breaking teammate Kyle Coleman’s school-record of 54.00 set at the Division III New England Championships two weeks ago.
Also for the Bears junior Trevor Siperek placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:20.16) to earn All-ECAC honors.
Coast Guard finished 19th of the 58 teams with 17 points.

 Adam Scalesse earned All-New England honors in a pair of events. NEW HAVEN, CONN.--(5/14/11)--Coast Guard Academy freshman Adam Scalesse earned All-New England honors in a pair of events while senior Kyle Coleman also earned All-New England honors the All-New England Championships which consist of Division I, II and III at Southern Connecticut State University.
Scalesse was fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.22 while Coleman was seventh in the same event with a time of 54.71.
The freshman, Scalesse, was also eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.92. |
