 Amanda Frederick hit .667 with five homers and 12 RBI's last week to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors for the second straight week. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/19/10)--Coast Guard won its second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship and swept the weekly honors as junior catcher Amanda Frederick was named Player of the Week and sophomore Hayley Feindel earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Frederick had a huge week and earned Player of the Week honors for the second straight week. She hit .667 (14 for 21) with three doubles, five homers and 12 RBI’s and 12 runs scored. Frederick had a slugging percentage of 1.524 and had 60 putouts without making an error.
Feindel got all six decisions during the week and was 5-1 with a 0.93 ERA with one walk and 54 strikeouts. She threw nine perfect innings vs. MIT including a six-inning perfect game. She threw a one-hit shutout vs. Mitchell and beat Springfield 4-1 on Sunday as she struck out 13 to clinch the top-seed. Feindel allowed 16 hits in 30 innings and five runs, four earned. |

 Hayley Feindel struck out 13 in game one as the Bears clinched the NEWMAC regular season championship. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(4/18/10)--Sophomore Hayley Feindel allowed six hits and one run while striking out 13 and not walking a batter as Coast Guard clinched its second straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship with a 4-1 win over Springfield in the first game of a doubleheader. The Pride took advantage of three consecutive Coast Guard errors in the seventh to beat the Bears 4-3 in the nightcap.
Coast Guard, ranked third in New England, will host the NEWMAC tournament next weekend. The Bears first game of the tournament will be at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Bears will play the winner of the #4 Wellesley vs. #5 Clark, which will be played at Coast Guard at 2:30 p.m.
Springfield finishes as the #2 seed and will open the tournament at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Pride will play the winner of the #3 Babson vs. #6 Wheaton, which will be played at Springfield at 2:30 p.m. |

 Hayley Feindel threw nine perfect innings and became the Bears' all-time strikeouts leader in the sweep of MIT. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/16/10)--Sophomore Hayley Feindel became the Bears’ all-time strikeouts leader in style as she threw nine perfect innings including a six inning perfect game in game one of a doubleheader and senior Carin Sweeney celebrated Senior Day by hitting the first three home runs of her career and drove in seven runs in game two as Coast Guard, ranked third in New England, hit seven homers in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader sweep of MIT, 8-0 in six innings and 13-5 in five innings.
Feindel retired all 18 batters she faced in the opener and tied a season-high with 14 strikeouts to become the Bears all-time leader. She broke the record of Colleen Perry (‘07) who had 634 punch outs. Feindel ended the first game with 644 strikeouts and added six more in game two to end the day with 650 for her career.
Coast Guard, which ran its win streak to eight, scored five runs in the first inning of game one with junior Amanda Frederick hitting a two-run homer before delivered her first career blast a solo shot to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. Freshman Stacia Sarwinski added an RBI double before sophomore Jamie Kim closed the scoring in the inning with an RBI single. |

 Anna Funk had three hits and four RBI's in the game two win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/13/10)--Amanda Frederick was 6 for 7 with a double, two homers, six runs scored and six RBI’s while Holli Bastinck was 5 for 7 with two doubles, four runs scored and five RBI’s as host Coast Guard, ranked fourth in New England, scored 29 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Mitchell. The Bears won the opener 10-0 in five innings before winning game two 19-0 also in five innings.
Frederick to the Bears started right away with a three-run homer in the first inning of the opener and was 3 for 3 with a double, a pair of homers and five RBI’s while Bastinck was also 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI’s in the game one win.
Becky Miller had two hits and scored a pair of runs in the opener for Coast Guard which ran its winning streak to six and improved to 23-6 overall. |
