Feindel and the Bears, who became the first team to ever go unbeaten in the NEWMAC this season, won their first ever NEWMAC regular season title with a record of 15-0-1. Coast Guard must now wait until Monday when the Division III NCAA Tournament field is announced. The Bears are hoping for an at-large bid to the 59-team tournament. It would be the first ever berth in program history. |

 Jamie Kim had a pair of big RBI hits as the Bears split with Merchant Marine. KINGS POINT, N.Y.—(4/30/09)—Freshman Hayley Feindel struck out a career-high 16 batters while scattering five singles as Coast Guard shutout Merchant Marine 3-0 in game two of a doubleheader after the Mariners beat the Bears 3-2 in the opener of a non-conference twin bill between the two rivals.
With the split, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine each finish with 6.5 points in the annual battle for the Superintendent’s Trophy which awards a point for each sport in which the two teams compete. The Bears, who have never lost the trophy will retain it with the tie.

 Courtney Wolf was 3 for 3 with a homer and six RBI's in the win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/28/09)--Junior Courtney Wolf was 3 for 3 with a double, homer and six RBI’s leading Coast Guard to a 9-1 win over Wesleyan in a non-conference game that was called in the sixth inning due to the eight-run rule.
Wolf blasted a three-run shot, her league-leading 13th of the season, in the first inning and added three-run double in the second as the Bears jumped out to a 6-1 lead.
Wesleyan (15-18), the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) West Division regular season champion, scored and unearned run in the first on an RBI single by sophomore Talia Bernstein scoring junior Meaghan Dendy, who reached on an error to lead off the game. |

 Hayley Feindel was named NEWMAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/28/09)--Freshman Hayley Feindel was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie and Pitcher of the Year and the Bears, who won their first ever NEWMAC regular season title,placed five players on the All-conference team in voting by the leagues nine head coaches.
Feindel, who has a 29-3 record, is among the national leaders and leads the NEWMAC and has already set Coast Guard single-season school records in wins (29), strikeouts (321) and ERA (0.84). She was 15-0 with a 0.71 ERA during in league games this season as the Bears became the first team to ever go unbeaten in NEWMAC regular season play, the Bears were 15-0-1 in conference action.
Feindel, junior third baseman Courtney Wolf and sophomore catcher Amanda Frederick were named first team All-conference while senior outfielders Annette Boston, who plays centerfield and Jeannie Crump, the Bears leftfielder, were named to the second team. |
