Softball - Bears Open NEWMAC Play With Sweep of Wheaton

Megan Cook had two hits and three RBI's in the come-from-behind win in game two.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/21/10)--Sophomore Hayley Feindel fired a six-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in the opener and the Bears, ranked 19th nationally, erased a 2-0 deficit in the second game to sweep Wheaton 2-0 and 6-3 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams.

Coast Guard (9-3, 2-0) extended its NEWMAC unbeaten streak to 19 games dating back to the 2008 season while Wheaton (11-3, 0-2) had its ten-game winning streak snapped.

In the opener, the Bears broke the scoreless tie in the fourth as senior Carin Sweeney delivered an RBI single scoring junior Amanda Frederick, who led off the inning with a single.

Coast Guard added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI single by Frederick which scored sophomore Maddie Buchert, who walked.

Softball - Feindel Throws No-Hitter as Bears Sweep

Hayley Feindel fired a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the opener.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/20/10)--Sophomore Hayley Feindel fired a no-hitter in the opener and senior Carin Sweeney was 3 for 3 with two RBI’s in game two as Coast Guard, ranked 19th nationally, swept Castleton State 6-0 and 6-1 in the home opener, a non-conference doubleheader.

Feindel faced just two batters over the minimum in the opener as a runner reached on an error and she walked a batter while striking out 13 to record her second career no-hitter.

Coast Guard erupted for five runs in the fifth to break a scoreless tie. Junior Becky Miller had a two-run single to break the scoreless tie while junior Amanda Frederick added an RBI double and freshmen Holli Bastinck and Megan Cook each had RBI singles in the inning.

Softball - Bears Split to Close out Rebel Games

Courtney Wolf drove in both of the Coast Guard runs in the win over Adrian.
KISSIMMEE, FLA.--(3/13/10)--Coast Guard, ranked 11th nationally, split a pair of games to wrap up its trip to the Rebel Games. The Bears beat Adrian 2-1 in the opener before falling to Rowan 5-1 in the night cap.

Sophomore Hayley Feindel scattered five hits and struck out 12 in the game one win.

Senior Courtney Wolf tied the game 1-1 with a solo homer in the fourth and the Bears scored the eventual winning run in the sixth on an RBI single by Wolf scoring junior Amanda Frederick, who led off the inning with a double.

Softball - Bears Split at Rebel Games

Holly Bastinck had four hits as the Bears split a pair of games on Wednesday.
KISSIMMEE, FLA.—(3/10/10)—Coast Guard, ranked 11th nationally, scored seven times in the top of the first and beat Greensboro College 12-3 in a game called after five due to the eight-run rule before the Bears fell to No. 5 Coe 1-0 at the Rebel Games.

Freshman Holli Bastinck , who was 3 for 4, highlighted the seven-run first with a two-run triple while classmate Megan Cook and junior Amanda Frederick each had two hits and two RBIs in the game one win.

Freshman Catherine Walker worked the final three innings and allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out one to pickup her first collegiate win. Sophomore Hayley Feindel worked the first two innings and allowed one hit.
