CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(4/16/11)-- The No. 4 ranked Coast Guard Academy softball team erupted for 29 runs while starting pitcher, Hayley Feindel, ran her streak of consecutive innings without allowing a run to 65, as the Bears downed swept host MIT, 14-0 and 15-1 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader as the Bears clinched their third straight NEWMAC regular season championship.

The Bears (31-1, 15-1 NEWMAC) jumped out to an early lead in Game One, striking for three unearned runs in the top of the first. After back-to-back Tech errors, Catherine Walker picked up two of her three RBI’s with a double into the right-centerfield gap. Three straight doubles by Amanda Frederick, Holly Bastnick and Walker led to four more runs for Coast Guard in the second. Frederick would also add a solo shot in the fifth, as part of a three-for-four afternoon.

The Cardinal and Gray had a pair of chances to snap Feindel’s lengthy scoreless innings streak, loading the bases in the first and putting a runner on third in the third inning. Jessica Oleinik picked up a two-out walk, followed by a single by Keri Dixon. Jenny Li reached on an error by the shortstop but Feindel got Anna Christensen to pop up to end the threat. Jessica Iacobucci led off the third with a base hit, advancing two bases on an error by the rightfielder, but Feindel escaped the jam once again with a pair of strikeouts. The junior All-American allowed just two hits in the first game while striking out 10 Tech hitters.
