Softball - Bears Drop Pair to No. 23 Wellesley; Fall 2-1 in Nightcap
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/22/08)--Jenna Harvey threw a one-hitter and struck out 16 in the opener and came on in relief and worked two hitless innings with five strikeouts in game two leading No. 23 Wellesley to a sweep of Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with a 7-0 win in the opener and a thrilling 2-1 nine inning win in the nightcap.

Harvey dominated the Bears lineup all afternoon. She struck out the first nine batters she faced and allowed just a single to Leanna Minton to lead off the fourth inning of game one. Harvey faced the minimum 21 batters in the opener as Minton was thrown out stealing.

Kara Wong’s sacrifice fly in the third gave the Blue a 1-0 lead and Shawn McCreadie’s two-run homer in the sixth pushed the lead to 3-0 before Wellesley tacked on four more runs in the seventh.

Softball - Bears Run Win Streak to Four with Home Sweep

Crystal Lee Coonan was the winning pitcher in both games as the Bears ran their win streak to four straight.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/21/08)--Carin Sweeney was 4 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI’s while Erin Cullen had a hit and three RBI’s as Coast Guard won the second game of a doubleheader 12-6 over Castleton State to complete a sweep and extend its win streak to four after the Bears won the opener 9-2.

In the opener, Annette Boston and Amanda Frederick each had two hits and drove in a run in the sixth inning as Coast Guard scored six times on eight hits in the inning to blow the game open. Jeannie Crump had a two-run double while Courtney Wolf added an RBI single in the inning.

Boston, Frederick and Wolf each had three hits in the opener as the Bears totaled 15 hits in game one.

Softball - Crump, Coonan Lead Bears to Sweep

Jeannie Crump had a huge day as the Bears swept Oneonta State.
KISSIMMEE, FLA.—(3/15/08)—Junior Jeannie Crump had three hits in each game including a two-run double in the eighth inning of the second game as Coast Guard won its first two games of the season, sweeping Oneonta State 7-2 and 8-6 at the Rebel Games, the Bears final two games of the southern swing.

Crump was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI’s in the opener while freshman Amanda Frederick was 3-for-3 with a single, double, triple and four RBI’s.

In game two, Coast Guard scored three times in the eighth to break a 5-5 as the Bears took the lead on an RBI single by sophomore Leanna Minton before Crump added a two-run single. Minton was 3 for 5 in game two.

Sophomore Crystal Lee Coonan was the winning pitcher in both games, she had two strikeouts in the opener and six strikeouts in the nightcap.
 
Softball - Bears Fall Twice at Rebel Games
KISSIMMEE, FLA.—(3/14/08)—Ramapo scored three unearned runs in the sixth to beat Coast Guard 5-3 before the Bears were beaten 10-0 by Ursinus in game two at the Rebel Games.

Sophomore Leanna Minton had two hits in the opener and Crystal Lee Coonan went the distance, allowing just two earned runs, but took the loss.

In game two, Ursinus had just four hits, but they took advantage of eight walks and four hit batters for the shutout win in a game stopped after five innings.
