Softball - Frederick Named ECAC Player of the Year

Amanda Frederick was named the ECAC New England Player of the Year.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/28/10)--Coast Guard junior catcher Amanda Frederick and sophomore pitcher Hayley Feindel continued to collect postseason honors as Frederick was named the ECAC Division III New England Softball Player of the Year while Feindel was named to the first team.

The Coast Guard battery mates were both named All-America third team selections last week.

The duo that led the Bears to the NCAA regional final for the second straight season earn first team ECAC honors for the second straight season. Feindel was the 2009 ECAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year.

Frederick, who was also the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year, led the team with a .483 batting average and set single-season school records with 71 hits, 18 doubles and 51 RBI’s while tying the single-season school record with 41 runs scored.

Softball - Bear Battery Mates Earn All-America Honors

Amanda Frederick had a record setting season to earn All-America honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/21/10)--The Coast Guard battery of junior Amanda Frederick and sophomore Hayley Feindel were both named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-American third team on Thursday night at the national championship banquet in Eau Claire, Wisc.

The duo that led the Bears to the NCAA regional final for the second straight season, become the first Coast Guard players to earn NFCA All-America honors in the history of the program.

Frederick, who was the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year, led the team with a .483 batting average and set single-season school records with 71 hits, 18 doubles and 51 RBI’s while tying the single-season school record with 41 runs scored.

She also belted nine homers, led the team with a .789 slugging percentage and a .494 on base percentage while making just two errors in 401 chances behind the plate.

Softball - Bears NCAA Run Ends in Extra Innings of Championship Game

Hayley Feindel was outstanding in a 1-0 nine inning loss in the championship game.
WELLESLEY, MASS.--(5/16/10)--In a match-up between two of New England's top pitchers, Coast Guard's Hayley Feindel and Eastern Connecticut's Molly Rathbun, Rathbun and the Warriors prevailed 1-0 in nine innings to win the NCAA Regional Championship this afternoon at Wellesley College.

Eastern, 36-4-1 and this season's Little East title-holder, advances to the 2010 NCAA Division III Softball Championship, May 21-25, at University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Coast Guard, the 2010 NEWMAC champion, finishes the season with a record of 34-10.

Coast Guard advanced to the NCAA regional championship game for the second straight season, the programs first two NCAA tournament appearances.

Both hurlers dominated play in the early going, with Feindel holding the Warriors hitless and Rathbun giving up just one hit through three innings. Coast Guard threatened in the bottom of the fourth, using back-to-back singles from Holli Bastinck and Courtney Wolf and a walk to load the bases with one out. But Rathbun fanned the next two batters to hold the score at 0-0.

Softball - Wolf, Bears Roar into N.E. Championship Game

Coutney Wolf's three-run blast sent the Bears back to regional championship game for the second straight season.
WELLESLEY, MASS.--(5/16/10)--Courtney Wolf blasted a three-run homer in the third inning leading third-seeded Coast Guard to a 4-1 win over second-seeded Brandeis earning the Bears a spot in the NCAA Division III regional championship game for the second straight season.

Coast Guard (34-9) will play top-seeded Eastern Connecticut in the championship game at 2:30 p.m. The Bears will need to beat the Warriors this afternoon and again at 10 a.m. on Monday to win the regional and advance to the Division III World Series in Wisconsin, which begins on Friday.

Brandeis took a 1-0 lead on a walk and three illegal pitches in the first. Hayley Feindel was called for six illegal pitches in the first inning, but made some between inning adjustments and threw six shutout innings to close out the game and improve to 32-9 on the season. Feindel scattered five hits while walking three and striking out four.
