 Jenn Proctor and Linden Dahlkemper sailing at Boston College. New London, CT--(4/14/08)--The Coast Guard Academy sailing team had a very successful weekend, sailing well in multiple disciplines. The Women’s Team finished 4th at the Joseph Duplin Trophy Intersectional hosted by Boston College. The regatta was sailed over two days with almost every kind of weather imaginable thrown at the sailors. Weather from rain, to fog, to sunshine made for difficult conditions on Dorchester Bay. In A-Division, Krysta Rohde ’11 and Kirstin Haas ’10 finished 4th with 40 points. Jenn Proctor ’11 and Linden Dahlkemper ’08 finished 3rd in B-Division with 39 points. The team combined for 79 points, just five points behind Dartmouth in 3rd and six behind Boston College in 2nd. The University of Rhode Island won the regatta with 60 points. The Women’s Team will travel to Yale this weekend for the Women’s New England Championship.
The Offshore Team traveled to the Naval Academy for the Navy Spring Keelboat Promotional Regatta, where they proved that they were the team to beat. On Saturday the sailors experienced similar conditions to the Women’s Team in Boston, with unpredictable shifts in the wind and weather. Despite the tough conditions, Coast Guard finished 1st, 3rd, and 1st in the three races on Saturday. Quoting the official regatta report, on Sunday, “Coast Guard continued their dominating form, winning 3 of 4 races to win the regatta.” Coast Guard won with 11 points. Sailing for the Bears were Trip Fernandez ’11, Jake McQuillan ‘11, Eric Johnson’ 10, and Cameron Welicka ‘11. Rounding out the top three were Navy in 2nd with 17 points and Duke in 3rd with 26 points. The Offshore Team will return to the Naval Academy this weekend for the Intrepid Trophy Match Race.

New London, CT--(3/23/08)--The Coast Guard Academy Women’s Sailing Team won the Women’s Invite, a combined division event, on their home waters this past weekend. In A-Division, Krysta Rohde ’11 and Kirstin Haas ’10 dominated the competition finishing 1st overall and 1st in their division with 33 points, 16 points better than the second place finished, Roger Williams. In B-Division, Jenn Proctor ’11 and Linden Dahlkemper ’08 finished 3rd overall and 1st in their division with 51 points. They beat their next B-Division competitor by 28 points. Next weekend, the team will travel to Brown for the Brad Dellenbaugh Women’s Intersectional to compete against the top women’s teams in the country.
The Co-Ed Team also had success this weekend. At the Owen Trophy, hosted by Yale, the team finished 8th out of 16 teams. Sailing for the bears was Sam Ingham ’11, Chris Grabe ’10 and Will Cotta ’11 in A-Division and Jon Duffett ’11 and Nicole Bredariol ’09 in B-Division. At the Boston Dinghy Club Cup, a 3-division intersectional, the team finished 13th out of 18 teams. Competing for the Bears was Noel Shriner ’08, Abbey LaFond ’08, Jason Hill ’08, Kevin Kuhn ’08, Jenn Hom ’09, Adam Frye ’08, and Emily Kehrt ’09. The team also finished 8th out of 13 teams at the Southern Series hosted by Salve Regina University. Sailing at the Southern Series was Ian Oviatt ’10, Margaret Woodbridge ’10, Geoff Single ’10, and Elise Maher ’11.

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.--(3/3/08)--The co-ed team placed third at the Eckerd Intersectional Regatta at Eckerd College.
The team was represented by two freshman skippers Sam Ingham (A-division) sailing with crew junior Emily Kehrt and Jonathan Duffett sailing with sophomore Chris Grabe.
The regatta saw 14 teams from four of the seven conferences represented. The Bears finished 3rd overall and 3rd in A-Division and 4th in B-Division.
A great finish as the sailors were one of the few teams that had any practice yet due to weather. Twelve races were sailed over two days in pleasant conditions. |

 Krysta Rhode was one of two Bears honored by the NEISA. CHARLESTON, S.C.--(3/3/08)--The Coast Guard Academy duo of Krysta Rhode ’11 and Kirsten Hass ’10 earned top New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Women’s honors this week for their fourth place A-division performance at the Charleston Women’s Intersectional Regatta this weekend.
In early season action and without much practice, underclassmen Rhode and Hass were able to put up consistent finishes against many southern teams who have been practicing for over a month to win a tiebreak with Yale’s Kate Hagemonn ’09 and Liz Brim ’11. Rhode, the NEISA women’s singlehanded champion in the fall, has shown her improvement in the double handed discipline with the strong showing against tough competition in Charleston. |
