Sailing - No. 13 Lady Bears 9th Going into Final Day
Image
Krysta Rohde and Tanya Cuprak are 11th in A-Division.
CASCADE LOCKS, OR--(5/26/11)--Day two of the ICSA Women's National Championship brought long delays followed by short periods of shifty and unpredictable racing. Long downwind legs in strong adverse current opened the door for anyone who happened to be in a favorable position on the racecourse. The Lady Bears are currently in 9th place, very close in points with several other teams, all who could surge into the top-5.

In only four races per division on Wednesday, multiple scores outside of the top-10 caused Coast Guard to slip slightly down the leader board. However, with a full day of racing to go and only a 31 point difference between 1st and 10th place, any team who can put together a string of low scores could quickly advance to the top.

Seniors Krysta Rohde and Tanya Cuprak are in 11th place in A-Division with 58 points. In B-Division, senior Jenn Proctor and junior Kristen Holloway are currently 9th with 46 points. Only 5 points separate them from 5th.

Racing will continue until 5pm PT on Thursday.

Jenn Proctor and Kristen Holloway started the National Championship with a 3-4 to help give the Lady Bears their lead.
CASCADE LOCKS, OR--(5/24/11)--After finishing fourth in the semi-finals, the 13th ranked women's sailing team is currently tied for first place after four races at the ICSA Women's National Championship. Both Coast Guard and the University of Rhode Island ended the day with 20 points and a slight lead over Georgetown and Old Dominion who have 21 and 22 points respectively.

The morning began with the conclusion of the semi-finals. The Lady Bears had sailed themselves into almost a sure trip to the finals on the previous day, so they focused hard on gaining information about the tricky conditions while others battled for the remaining berths. They finished 4th in the semi-finals with 89 points. It was all New England at the top with Yale winning with 60 points, Brown finishing 2nd with 70 and Rhode Island in 3rd with 86.

Seniors Krysta Rohde and Tanya Cuprak continued to sail well, finishing tied for 2nd in A-Division but losing the tie breaker to Brown. Both teams were just four points off of a divisional win. In B-Division, seniors Jenn Proctor and Elise Maher and junior Kristen Holloway finished 7th with 51 points. At the conclusion of the semi-finals, there was a short break before the finals began.

Among the fifteen honorees on both the first and second teams were seven previous All-Americans and two finalists for College Sailor of the Year.
