Women's Crew - Three Named CRCA Scholar Athletes

Rachel Thomas was one of three honored by the CRCA.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/25/10)--Coast Guard Academy had three student-athletes named to 2010 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athlete team.

Sophomores Holly Madden (Civil Engineering), Erin Nolan (Mechanical Engineering) and Rachel Thomas (Naval Architecture and Marine Science) were all honored from Coast Guard.

To be named to the team the student-athlete must have a 3.5 GPA or higher, achieved sophomore status and rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.

 
Crew -- Bears Place Two on ECAC All-Conference team

Holly Madden was named to the ECAC All-Conference team.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/20/10)--Senior Kris Kesting and sophomore Holly Madden were both named to the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships All-Conference team.

Kesting from named from the men's team while Madden represented the Coast Guard women.

The 2010 championships were held on May 9th at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
 
Women's Crew - Bears Close Season at ECAC's
WORCESTER, MASS.--(5/9/10)--In their last race of the season, at the 2010 ECAC Invitational Championship, Coast Guard Women’s Rowing struggled to reproduce regular season results.

With final exams over and the Bears packed out of the Academy, the women were looking forward to finishing their 2009-2010 season strong.

Unfortunately for the Varsity 8, two of their regular season rowers were unable to compete and their ECAC results reflected that strength lost. Posting a disappointing 7:18.323 in their heat, Coast Guard finished fifth to Ithaca, UNH, William-Smith and Smith, placing them in the third level final.

Women's Crew - Youthful Bears Strong at NE Championships
WORCESTER, MASS.--(5/1/10)--In their last full squad competition of the season at the 2010 New England Championships, Coast Guard Women’s Rowing proved once again that, although young, the Bears are strong competitors.

The women’s novice four raced first (second race of the season) placing well in their heat (8:54.335), second only to primary fours school Amherst College. Then, during their final, the Bears finished fourth overall (9:42.024). Three of our women in this boat learned to row just this season. Racing for Coast Guard, was (Frosh) C Stephanie Bugyis, (Frosh) 4 Gabrielle Lemly, (Frosh) 3 Rachel LeClaire, (Frosh) 2 Christine Case, and (Frosh) 1 Jamie Wright.
