Women's Crew - Novice 8 Leads the Way by Winning Gold
HARTFORD, CONN.--(9/30/07)--The Coast Guard Academy Crew team opened the ‘07-‘08 season with an impressive showing at the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford on Sunday. On a beautiful fall day, CGA crews medaled in all nine events they entered.

Coast Guard was matched up against stiff competition from Division III Trinity and NEWMAC conference opponent Smith College as well as Division I programs from Army and UConn. Coming out on top, the Women’s Novice Collegiate Eight brought home the gold. The Women’s Second Collegiate Eight took silver in their race and the Women’s First Collegiate Eight and Women’s First Collegiate Four, who doubled out of the Eight, took bronze.

Coast Guard Academy Crew will be back in action Saturday at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta in New Haven. The race schedule and results will be available at www.regettacentral.com.

 
Women's Crew - Bears Take 2nd Place in Petite Final at NCAA's
OAK RIDGE, TENN.—-(5/26/07)--The Coast Guard Academy women’s Varsity 8 was edged out by three-tenths of a second by Mary Washington at the finish line of the Petite Final at the NCAA Rowing Championships at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee with the University of Tennessee serving as the host.

The Bears, who earned their fourth invitation to the NCAA Championship in the last five years, finish another great season eighth nationally.

Women's Crew - Bears Suffer Communication Failure at NCAA's
OAK RIDGE, TENN.—-(5/25/07)--The Coast Guard Academy women’s Varsity 8 placed third in the opening heat in the morning, but in the afternoon’s Grand Qualifier, the coxswain’s microphone system went out and she lost communication with the crew 500 meters in as the Bears finished sixth landing them in the Petite Final at the NCAA Rowing Championships at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee with the University of Tennessee serving as the host.

The Bears, who earned their fourth invitation to the NCAA Championship in the last five years, will now compete in the Petite Final at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Women's Crew - Schmidt Named First team All-America
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/21/07)--Coast Guard Academy senior Heidi Schmidt has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/Pocock Division III All-America first eight.

Schmidt, a second-eight All-America last season, leads her Varsity Eight to the Division III NCAA Championships this week at the University of Tennessee.

The two-year captain, who led the team to its first ever New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, will graduate on Wednesday and leave for the NCAA Championships on Thursday. The Bears will race on Friday and Saturday.
