Women's Crew - Bears Post Strong Performance at Head of Charles
BOSTON, MASS.--(10/21/07)--The US Coast Guard Academy Men’s and Women’s Crews competed against the top DI, DII, DIII and club programs from all over the world at the 43rd Annual Head of the Charles Regatta.

On Saturday, under cloudy skies, two of the CGA’s four entries opened up the weekend of competition. The CGA Second Varsity Men competed in the Club Eight event against a variety of crews ranging from international club programs to DI programs who did not get accepted into the Championship events to other DIII second varsitys, while the Women’s Second Varsity competed in the Collegiate 4+ event that included collegiate programs in the US and Canada regardless of division as long as there are no athletic scholarships offered. In the Men’s event, the Bears posted a great performance that had them finish in 28th place out of the field of 68 crews. The boat included Courtney Elder, Nick Jokela, Chris Verlinden, Tenor Galambush, Phil Constantino, Dan Swaim, Brian Kelly, Sam Merritt, and James Heuser. The winner was Harvard University’s Second Varsity. With this performance, CGA has guaranteed an entry in the Men’s Club Eight event in next year’s regatta.

Women's Crew - Bears Grab Pair of Bronze Medals at Head of Housy
SHELTON, CONN.--(10/6/07)--USCGA Crew medalled in 4 of 7 events entered at the Head of the Housatonic. The medal winners, in order of racing, included the Women's Collegiate 4+ (bronze), Men's Collegiate 8 (bronze), Women's Collegiate 8 (bronze), and the Men's Collegiate 4+ (bronze).

Women's Crew - Novice 8 Leads the Way by Winning Gold
HARTFORD, CONN.--(9/30/07)--The Coast Guard Academy Crew team opened the ‘07-‘08 season with an impressive showing at the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford on Sunday. On a beautiful fall day, CGA crews medaled in all nine events they entered.

Coast Guard was matched up against stiff competition from Division III Trinity and NEWMAC conference opponent Smith College as well as Division I programs from Army and UConn. Coming out on top, the Women’s Novice Collegiate Eight brought home the gold. The Women’s Second Collegiate Eight took silver in their race and the Women’s First Collegiate Eight and Women’s First Collegiate Four, who doubled out of the Eight, took bronze.

Coast Guard Academy Crew will be back in action Saturday at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta in New Haven. The race schedule and results will be available at www.regettacentral.com.

 
Women's Crew - Bears Take 2nd Place in Petite Final at NCAA's
OAK RIDGE, TENN.—-(5/26/07)--The Coast Guard Academy women’s Varsity 8 was edged out by three-tenths of a second by Mary Washington at the finish line of the Petite Final at the NCAA Rowing Championships at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee with the University of Tennessee serving as the host.

The Bears, who earned their fourth invitation to the NCAA Championship in the last five years, finish another great season eighth nationally.
