SHELTON, CONN.--(10/9/11)--The novice men made a strong showing in their first regatta at the Head of the Housatonic.
Starting in September as true “novice” rowers the men pushed through less than favorable conditions on the water while learning the basics of moving the shell. Feeding off each other’s commitment they progressed quickly coming into October. At the Housatonic the men had a strong first 1000 meters making an early pass on Fairfield U. through the first turn heading upstream.
Coxswain, Peter Driscoll maintained the crews focus through the body of the race and finished strong with a time of 17:59.7 – placing them 5th among competitive crews including Yale, Brown, and Williams.
Rowers in the Novice 8: Bow - Bryce Monaco, Nate Cajigas, Pat Sullivan, Nick Rogers, Ben McKeathen, Alex Kloo, Sean Murphy, and stroke Luke Carani |

Hart Perry passed away on Feb. 3rd. NEW LONDON, CONN.--On Thursday, February 3rd, coach W. Hart Perry passed away following a brief illness. Coach Perry was a key member of CGA’s rowing staff for many years and has been involved in Coast Guard rowing since its inception in 1971.
Hart was a good friend and mentor to Bill Stowe, the first coach of Coast Guard rowing. He functioned as the lead advisor and rigger for CGA crew, assisting in the procurement and maintenance of the team’s equipment. Regardless of his many other responsibilities, Coach Perry always made himself available to CGA crew, volunteering countless hours at the boathouse. Hart’s dedication to the sport of rowing and selflessness set an excellent example for our cadet athletes. Hart had ties to the Coast Guard community; he served as Junior Officer in the Coast Guard following his graduation from Dartmouth College. |
