Men's Crew - Bears Win Silver at ECAC National Invitational
WORCESTER, MASS.--(5/11/08)--In the Men's Varsity Four event, an event that that CGA had qualified for the first time ever, the Bears qualified for the Grand Finals by winning their heat in the morning in a real battle with Tufts, who had beaten them last weekend at the New England Championships.

In the afternoon Grand Final, the CGA four had the best race of the season and had a brilliant last 500 meters to place themselves into a four boat 'photo finish' and to to ultimately capture the silver medal, the first medal ever won by a CGA crew at the ECAC's. The Bears finished just 0.8 seconds behind the University of Virginia and 0.5 seconds and 0.7 seconds ahead of Tufts and Marist respectively.

Men's Crew - All Four Boats Make Grand Finals at NE Championships
WORCESTER, MASS.--(5/4/08)--Coast Guard showed its depth and overall team speed by placing all four boats into the Grand Finals at the New England Rowing Championships held Sunday under wet conditions at Lake Quinsigamond.

The men’s novice team put in very strong performance in their Grand Final and took third place in a time of 6:21.3. This performance put the CGA novice men in a great position for the upcoming ECAC National Invitational Championship. The Novice 8 included Hilary Grimes (Fr), Nick Greaver (Fr), John Olbrys (Fr), Dave Kent (Fr), Austin King (Fr), Brian Bonomi (Fr), Dave Birdsong (Fr), Corbin (Fr) and Alex Schmidt (Fr).

Men's Crew - Varsity 8 Beats Bates; Lose to Williams, Ithaca
PITTSFIELD, MASS.--(4/27/08)--The Men's Varsity 8 raced twice on Saturday at the regatta on Lake Onota under cloudy skies, showers and extremely variable wind conditions.

In the morning race, the CGA men lost to Williams by just over two seconds seconds and finished ahead of Bates by one second, finishing in a time of 6:30.1. Later in the morning Grand finals, the Bears fell off the pase early and finished fourth behind Williams, Marist and Ithaca, in that order, finishing in a time of 6:40.1, 15 seconds out of first.

Men's Crew - Bears Sweep UMass, URI
WORCESTER, MASS.--(4/19/08)--The Coast Guard Academy Men's Crew swept University of Massachusetts-Amherst's and University of Rhode Island in the First, Second, and Third Varsity events as well as the Novice eights on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond.

In all of the events, the Bears lead wire-to-wire and built up substantial leads by the time they had past the halfway point in the race. In the First Varsity race, the Bears won in a time of 6:01; nine seconds and 15 seconds ahead of UMASS and URI respectively. In the 2V race, CGA won in a time of 6:07.1; 28 seconds and 36 seconds ahead of UMASS and URI respectively. In the 3V race, CGA won in a time of 6:32.9; 11 seconds ahead of UMASS and in the Novice race, CGA won in a time of 6:21.5; 16 seconds ahead of URI.

The Bears are back in action on Sunday against Connecticut College on the Thames in a Varsity Four event that will start at 4:30 p.m.
