NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/6/07)--Junior Jay Turner fired a six-hit shutout while walking one and striking out three as MIT beat Coast Guard 2-0 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard’s Jacob Pitchford (2-2) was the tough luck loser as he also went the distance allowing just three hits, one earned run, while walking three and striking out seven. Turner improves to 2-0 on the season. |

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(4/3/07)--The Johnson & Wales University baseball team defeated Coast Guard, 14-9 in a non-conference contest at Pierce Field.
After Coast Guard got on the board in the top of the second, Johnson & Wales took the lead in the bottom of the second with a four run inning, including a two-run double by junior Mike Manley. The Wildcats, leading 4-2 in the bottom of the third, scored four unearned runs in the inning, including a two-run double by senior Alex Hurley to take an 8-2 advantage. The Wildcats scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending 10 batters to the plate while recording seven hits to take the 14-4 lead. Coast Guard rallied in the top of the eighth as they tallied five runs, including a three-run home by senior Chuck Arena to cut the lead to 14-9. That would be as close as the Bears would get, however as JWU held on for the 14-9 win. |

(photo by Jeff Bartlett) BABSON PARK, MASS.--(3/31/07)-- Will Becker improved to 3-0 on the season as he threw a complete game and scattered 10 hits while allowing three runs and striking out a season-high nine as Coast Guard beat Babson 7-3 in game two to salvage a split of a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader after the Beavers blanked the Bears 5-0 in the opener.
Babson (10-5, 1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Becker settled down to blank the Beavers over the final eight innings as his team rallied for a 7-3 triumph. The Bears (7-8, 2-2) scored two runs in the second on back-to-back RBI groundouts by junior Kevin Higgins and sophomore Brian Yurovich and then took the lead on a two-run homer to right-center by senior tri-captain Chuck Arena in the third. Junior Christian George and Arena each added RBI singles in a two-run fifth that gave Coast Guard a 6-3 lead, and freshman Keith Laird capped the scoring when he singled and later scored on a wild pitch in the ninth. |

(photo by Jeff Bartlett) MIDDLETOWN, CONN.--(3/29/07)--Wesleyan scored five unearned runs in the third inning to erase a 3-2 deficit as the Cardinals beat Coast Guard 12-6, handing the Bears their third straight loss, in a non-conference game.
Coast Guard scored four times in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead as Brian Yurovich and Kevin Keefe drew bases loaded walks and Christian George had an RBI groundout while the Bears other run came on a throwing error.
Wesleyan led 8-4 after their five-run third and then the Cardinals added three more runs in the fourth for a commanding 11-4 lead. |
