Baseball - Bears Swept at Wheaton

John Jeffares had a pair of hits in game two.
NORTON, MASS.--(4/3/10)--Wheaton swept a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader from Coast Guard as the Lyons won the opener 16-0 before winning the second game 13-5.

The Lyons, winners of nine of their last 10, improve to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play while Coast Guard, which has dropped nine straight, drops to 4-13 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC.

In the opener, Wheaton jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and outhit the Bears 18-2 in the win. Freshman Riley Beecher (1-2) allowed ten earned runs in the first three innings to take the loss.

Baseball - Bears Comebacks Falls Short; Swept by Clark

Riley Beecher was 8 for 9 with four RBI's and six runs scored for the Bears.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/27/10)--Senior Phillip DiMarco had five hits including a double, triple and homer and drove in three runs in each game as Clark swept a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader from Coast Guard with the Cougars beating the Bears 15-12 in the opener and 7-4 in the nightcap.

Coast Guard freshman Riley Beecher had an outstanding day as he was 8 for 9 on the day with four RBI’s and six runs scored in the doubleheader. He went 5 for 5 in the opener and 3 for 4 in game two.

Clark (8-7, 2-2) jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the third inning of the opener, seven of those runs were unearned, but they had to hold off the Bears.

Senior Ronald Bathrick had two hits including a double and three RBI’s in the opener as all nine starters had at least one hit as the Cougars totaled 12 hits.

Baseball - Wesleyan Beats Bears 9-2

Ryan Milligan hit a two-run homer to account for the Bears two runs.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/25/10)--Senior Brice Kelly was 4 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI’s leading Wesleyan to a 9-2 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.

Senior Michael Cifuentes (1-0) pitched eight solid innings allowing five hits and a pair of earned runs while walking two and striking out two to pickup the win. Junior Joe Giaimo pitched a perfect ninth inning for Wesleyan.

Coast Guard (4-9) took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer to left by senior Ryan Milligan, but that would be all the damage the Bears could do against Cifuentes and the Cardinals.

Baseball - Errors Cost Bears in Doubleheader Sweep

Riley Beecher was the tough luck loser in the opener, he allowed six unearned runs in the loss.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/21/10)--Castleton State took advantage of 13 Coast Guard errors and scored 18 unearned runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Bears. The Spartans won the opener 6-1 and completed the sweep with a 15-4 win in the nightcap of the non-conference doubleheader.

Sophomore Brandon Fay (2-1) pitched a complete game in the opener for Castleton State allowing just four hits and an earned run while walking one and striking out five.

The Spartans scored twice in the second on a two-run single by freshman Mathew Pause and added four more runs in the sixth with freshman Ryan Zielinski adding a two-run single in the inning.

Coast Guard’s only run in game one came in the fourth on an RBI single by freshman pitcher Riley Beecher (1-1), who worked 5 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and six unearned runs with three walks and three strikeouts and took the loss.
