CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(4/15/08)--Junior David Nole continued his mid-season resurgence at the plate in leading MIT to a 7-5 victory over Coast Guard at Briggs Field on Tuesday. Taking advantage of four errors, the Engineers solidified their spot in third place in the NEWMAC standings while sweeping the season-series from the Bears.
MIT (12-11, 5-4) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as William Blackman’s drive to deep right center with two outs in the first resulted in a miscommunication in the outfield that scored two runs. Blackman scored on the ensuing at bat as Nole ripped an RBI single to left field.
Coast Guard (6-17, 1-8) scored a pair of runs in the top of the second thanks to a triple by sophomore Keith Laird, who also crossed the plate after an errant throw to third. Despite the big knock, the Engineers stayed in front as MIT starter Chris D’Annunzio surrendered just two hits in three innings before being pulled from the game. |

HARTFORD, CONN.--(4/14/08)--Sophomore Jeremiah Bayer struck out 11 batters and allowed just two hits and sophomore Kent Graham knocked in four runs with a double and a homerun to keep the Trinity College Bantams undefeated with a 10-2 win over Coast Guard. Trinity, ranked No. 7 in the nation, improves to 24-0 while Coast Guard falls to 6-16.
Junior Sean Killeen also went deep for the Bantams while junior Ryan Piacentini and sophomore Matt Sullivan finished with two hits apiece. Bayer went seven innings allowing no earned runs and Derek Anderson and senior Jon Rappapport closed out the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. The Bantam pitchers finished the game with 14 strikeouts to just two walks.

 Kevin Higgins had three hits in the loss. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/9/08)--Eric Moreschi allowed just two unearned runs over the first six innings and the Buccaneers scored five runs in the sixth enroute to a 7-3 win over Coast Guard in a non-league game.
Coast Guard (6-15) took a 2-0 lead in the third on an by single by Ken Franklin and a sacrifice fly by Brian Yurovich.
Kevin Thomas, the Coast Guard starter, allowed just two hits thru the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth as the Bucs scored five runs on four hits and a pair of walks.
Andrew Saari got Mass. Maritime on the board with an RBI single before Ross Hickey’s two-run double gave the Bucs a 3-2 lead. Anthony Barrett’s two-run single chased Thomas and pushed the lead to 5-2.
The Bears got a run back in the seventh, to make it a 5-3 game, on an RBI single by Kevin Higgins scoring Adam Reckley, who led off the inning with a single, but reliever Nick Levitre got Keith Laird to hit into a double play with the bases loaded to get out of the inning. |

 Will Becker pitched a complete game and allowed just one earned run while striking out a season-high seven, but four unearned runs did in the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/8/08)--Michael Cole scattered eight hits and allowed two runs, one earned over eight innings and Springfield scored four unearned runs to beat Coast Guard 5-2 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard’s Will Becker (1-5) was the tough luck loser as he went the distance and allowed 10 hits, but just one earned run while walking two and striking out a season-high seven.
Springfield scored in the top of the first on an RBI single by Casey Federico and increased its lead to 2-0 on an RBI single by Rex Cone in the third.
Kevin Keefe, who led off the bottom of the third, scored on a throwing error as Coast Guard cut the deficit to 2-1.
Federico added another RBI single in the fifth as the Pride (9-13, 3-3) took a 3-1 lead. |
