 Ken Franklin drove in three runs in the opener as the Bears beat Mitchell 7-5. NORWICH, CONN.--(4/30/08)--Ken Franklin drove in three runs and Pete Schofield pitched a complete game leading Coast Guard to a 7-5 win in the opener before Cody Faddis pitched six solid innings leading Mitchell to a 7-6 win in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at Dodd Stadium, the final games of the season for Coast Guard.
Coast Guard (7-21) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game one as the Bears scored twice in the first on a two-run double by Kevin Higgins and then three times in the second on an RBI single by Christian George and a two-run single by Franklin.
George and Higgins each had two hits in the opener for the Bears.
Mitchell (14-15) scored four runs in the fourth inning, scoring on a wild pitch, balk and back-to-back RBI singles by Robert McHugh and Clayton Boegler.
The Bears responded with two in the home half on a bases loaded walk to Bill Birch and an RBI groundout by Franklin for a 7-4 lead.
Mitchell scored the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Alex Hamlin in the seventh inning. |

 Ken Franklin earned All-conference honors for the first time in his career. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/29/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior third baseman Ken Franklin was named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference second team in voting by the league’s seven head coaches.
Franklin, who hit .462 in conference play, leads the team with a .400 batting average, 38 hits, 22 runs scored, 15 walks, two triples, a .504 on base percentage and a .484 slugging percentage. He also has 14 RBI and eight stolen bases.
He earns All-conference honors for the first time in his career.
Coast Guard (6-20) closes the season on Wednesday when they take on cross town rival Mitchell in doubleheader at Dodd Stadium in Norwich beginning at noon. |

WORCESTER, MASS.--(4/19/08)--Scott McNee belted a two-run home run in the seventh inning and a three-run blast in the eighth to help WPI to a 7-3 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep over visiting Coast Guard. Earlier in the day the Engineers took the opener by a score of 16-2.
The Engineers improve to 16-15-1 overall and 5-7 in the NEWMAC, securing a spot in next week’s six-team, double elimination NEWMAC Tournament. Coast Guard slips to 6-20 on the season and finishes 1-11 in conference play and did not qualify for the conference tournament. The Bears needed a sweep this afternoon to secure the sixth and final spot. |

 Christian George had three hits and three RBI's in the loss. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(4/17/08)--In a game that featured 39 hits and 32 runs, the Springfield College baseball team grinded out an 18-14 victory over Coast Guard in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Thursday afternoon at Berry-Allen Field.
The win, which clinches a spot in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament for the Pride, improves SC to 12-17, 4-6 in league play. The Bears drop to 6-18, 1-9.
In an offensive shootout, Ryan Hingston led the way for the Pride as he went 5-of-6, including three doubles. |
