Women's Swimming - Gayman, Shadwick Lead Bears

Kim Shadwick won two events and was also part of a winning relay to lead Coast Guard to victory.
NEW PALTZ, N.Y.--(11/07/09)--Heidi Gayman and Kim Shadwick each won three events and the duo were part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team leading Coast Guard to a 136-126 win over host SUNY New Paltz in the first dual meet of the season.

It was the Bears first win over New Paltz since 2002.

Gayman won the 50 freestyle (25.45), 100 freestyle (55:04) and the 200 freestyle (1:59.24) while Shadwick won the 200 backstroke (2:12.37) and 500 freestyle (5:20.56) and set a school-record in winning the 100 backstroke (1:01.08).

The 400 freestyle relay team of Gayman, Madeline Ede, Emily Zalewski and Shadwick posted a winning time of 3:43.28.

Also winning for the Bears were Elizabeth Kenis in the 100 backstroke (1:01.08) and Sam Sworden in the 200 butterfly (2:25.00).
 
Women's Swimming - Bears Capture Union Relays to Open Season

Heidi Gayman was part of three winning relays to lead the Bears.
SCHENECTADY, N.Y.--(10/31/09)--Kim Shadwick and Heidi Gayman were part of three winning relays as Coast Guard won the season opening Union Relays for the first time since 2002 edging host Union 120-118.

The team of Sam Sworden, Amy Olson, Shadwick and Gayman won the 400 medley relay (4:08.76) and the 400 free relay (3:42.85).

Gayman, Madeline Ede, Emily Zalewski, Shadwick teamed to win both the 200 free relay (1:41.55) and the 400 free relay (3:42.85).
 
Women's Swimming - 2009-10 Season Preview

Tri-captain Kim Shadwick and the Bears are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history.
After the most successful season the short history of the program, the Bears will hope to repeat and improve on last season’s successes. Returning to lead the women are senior captains Kaitlin Godden, Ariana Pourmonir, and junior Kim Shadwick. The core of athletes returning is highlighted by four NCAA qualifiers and a strong youth movement. The vast majority of women who scored at the NEWMAC championships in 2009 were freshmen and sophomores, all who return this season. The Bears have improved one place in each of the past two seasons at the conference championship and will look to keep moving up the leader board.

Swimming - Six Individuals and both teams honored by CSCAA

Krystyna Vihonski was one of six Coast Guard student-athletes to earn Scholar All-America honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(7/2/09)--The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) honored both the Coast Guard Academy men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams with team Scholar All-American honors while six individuals were also named Scholar All-Americans.

The men’s team had a GPA of 3.04 while the women’s team had a combined GPA of 3.01 to also make the cut of 3.0 for team honors.

Senior Jim Okorn earned first team honors with a 3.53 GPA. An individual who has over a 3.5 and earns and invite to the NCAA Championship is named to the first team. He earns Scholar All-America honors for the fourth straight season.
