 Krystyna Vihonski was one of six Coast Guard student-athletes to earn Scholar All-America honors. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(7/2/09)--The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) honored both the Coast Guard Academy men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams with team Scholar All-American honors while six individuals were also named Scholar All-Americans.
The men’s team had a GPA of 3.04 while the women’s team had a combined GPA of 3.01 to also make the cut of 3.0 for team honors.
Senior Jim Okorn earned first team honors with a 3.53 GPA. An individual who has over a 3.5 and earns and invite to the NCAA Championship is named to the first team. He earns Scholar All-America honors for the fourth straight season. |

 Sarah Hohnstadt was one of seven student-athletes from Coast Guard named to the team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/6/09)--Coast Guard placed seven student-athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams.
Senior Shea Winterberger, juniors Ariana Pourminor and Sarah Hohnstadt and sophomore Sarah-Jane Otey were named to the women’s team.
Junior Taylor Volkman and sophomores Brian Bonomi and Zach McCune were named to the men’s team. |

 Kim Shadwick won three events leading the Bears to a fourth place finish. CAMBRIDGE, MASS.—(2/22/09)—Sophomore Kim Shadwick won three events breaking three of her own school records and a pair of meet records, she swam the anchor leg of a relay team which placed second to earn All-Conference honors breaking seven school records (individual and relay) in all as Coast Guard placed fourth at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship at MIT.
Coast Guard finished with 461 points, Springfield won the meet for the ninth straight season. The Pride finished with 872.5 points.
Shadwick captured the 200 freestyle championship for the second straight season, breaking both school and NEWMAC Championship records with a NCAA “B” cut time of 1:53.07. |

MIDDLETOWN, CONN.--(2/7/09)--Kim Shadwick won the 100 backstroke (1:01.62), the 200 backstroke (1:55.66) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.90), but Coast Guard lost at Wesleyan 162-137 in the final dual meet of the season.
Also for the Bears, Samantha Sworden won the 1,000 freestyle (10:59.51), Sarah-Jane Otey won the 200 freestyle (1:58.50), Amy Olson won the 100 breaststroke (1:12.31) and Krystyna Vihonski won the 200 breaststroke (2:32.50).
Coast Guard finishes the dual meet season 4-6-1 and prepare for the NEWMAC Championships which take place Feb. 20-22 at MIT.
