Men's Swimming - Brown, Westkott Honored by NEWMAC

Bobby Brown was named NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year for the first time in his brillant career.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/6/08)--Coast Guard Academy senior All-America Bobby Brown was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimmer of the year the Bears head coach John Westkott, who led Coast Guard to its third straight championship was named Swimming Coach of the Year.

Brown, who earned Swimmer of the Year honors for the first time in his career, earned first team All-Conference in two events, 200 Free and 1650 Free, and second team honors in the 500 Free. He was also a part of Coast Guard's second place 800 Freestyle Relay team. His times in the finals of the 200 Free and 1650 Free, as well as his preliminary time in the 500 Free, all set Conference championship records and he will compete at the NCAA Division III Championships at Miami University in Ohio beginning on March 20th.

Men's Swimming - Bears Three-Peat at NEWMAC Championships

All-America Bobby Brown led the Bears to a third straight NEWMAC Championship.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(3/2/08)--Senior Bobby Brown had quite a weekend. The All-American won two individual events, qualified automatically for the NCAA Division III Championships and set both conference records and pool records in three events as Coast Guard won seven events, placed second seven events and had 110 lifetime best swims or dives and won its third straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.

Brown, a five-time All-America, won the 200 free (1:39.34), 1650 free (15:41.81), where his 1,000 split was a NEWMAC and school record as well, (9:30.34). He also placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:38.37). He is ranked third in the 200, 1650 and the 500 heading to the NCAA's on Mar. 20-22 at Miami University in Ohio. His time of 4:32.15 in the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle was both a NEWMAC and pool record.

Coast Guard Academy entered Sunday's final round of competition with a healthy lead, and that lead would only grow larger, as the Bears pulled away from the pack finishing with a staggering 991 points, outdistancing runner-up MIT (868) and third-place finisher Springfield College (741).

Men's Swimming - Bears Lead at NEWMAC's after Day Two

Doug Fallon set a pair of NEWMAC records as the Bears lead after two days.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(3/1/08)--Doug Fallon set New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference records in both the 200 and 400 IM events, winning both events as two-time defending champion Coast Guard leads the NEWMAC Championships after two days.

The Bears increased their lead and now have 660 points, putting them ahead of second-place MIT (592) and third-place Springfield College (487).

Coast Guard won a pair of events on Friday and three more on Saturday.

Fallon won the 200 IM in 1:54.67 and the 400 IM in 4:04.13 setting a pair of records.

All-America Bobby Brown is heading back to the NCAA Championships as he set a pool and NEWMAC record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.34, a time which automatically qualifies him for the NCAA's which will take place Mar. 20-22 at Miami University in Ohio.

Men's Swimming - Bears Sink Wesleyan in Final Dual Meet of Season

Jim Okorn won a pair of events leading the Bears to a win over Wesleyan.
MIDDLETOWN, CONN.--(2/9/08)--Timmy Berry and Jim Okorn each won two events and were part of the winning 200 medley relay team leading Coast Guard to a 159-116 win over Wesleyan in the final dual meet of the season.

Berry won both the 100 backstroke (54.41) and the 200 backstroke (1:59.11) while Okorn won the 50 freestyle (21.87) and the 200 freestyle (1:46.49). They also teamed with Jack Sauve and Nick Forni to win the 200 medley relay (1:37.63).
