Men's Swimming - Berry Named NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week

Timmy Berry was named the NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/9/09)--Coast Guard Academy senior Timmy Berry has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Berry won two individual events, the 100 back (54.19) which was a New Paltz pool record, and the 200 back 1:58.28 (just missed a pool record by .1) and he was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:38.68) which set a New Paltz pool record. Coast Guard won the season opening dual meet easily 167-92.

 
Men's Swimming - Bears Win Season Opening Dual Meet

Tim Berry won a pair of individual events and was part of a winning relay to lead the Bears.
NEW PALTZ, N.Y.--(11/07/09)--Coast Guard won 13 of the 14 events and broke four pool records to easily beat host SUNY New Paltz 167-92 in the first dual meet of the season.

Nine different swimmers won individual events with Timmy Berry and Matt Odom each winning a pair of events while the Bears won both relays.

Berry broke the pool record in the 100 backstroke (54.19) while also winning the 200 backstroke (1:58.28) while Odom set the pool record the 100 breaststroke (1:00.43) and also won the 200 IM (2:02.87).

Also for the Bears, Nicholas Poehler won the 1,000 freestyle (10:08.16), Brian McGuiness won the 200 freestyle (1:48.74), Kevin Smit won the 200 butterfly (2:00.57), Johnson Knox tied the 23-year old pool record in the 50 freestyle (21.70), Dan Beshoar won the 100 freestyle (49.31), Mike Carman won the 200 breaststroke (2:13.09) and Alex Brown won the 500 freestyle (4:56.55).

Men's Swimming - Bears Win Union Relays

Johnson Knox and the Bears won the Union Relays to open the season.
SCHENECTADY, N.Y--(10/31/09)-- Coast Guard won every relay to capture the Union Relays to open the season.

The Bears won easily as they totaled 164 points while host Union was second with 80 points.

The team of Timmy Berry, Mike Carman, Dan Alley and Dan Beshoar won the 400 medley relay (3:36.52). Johnson Knox, Bryan Andrews, Brian McGuiness and Alex Brown won the 200 free relay (1:29.62).

The Bears won the 300 backstroke relay, 2:46.68 (Berry, Nicholas Poehler, Andrews), the 300 breaststroke relay, 3:04.74 (Matt Odom, Mike Carman, Tanner Armstrong) and the 300 butterfly relay, 2:41.67 (Alley, Berry, Kevin Smit).

Men's Swimming - 2009 -10 Season Preview

Tri-captain Tim Berry and the Bears have high hopes for the upcoming season.
The Bears return a solid core of swimmers and divers from the 2008-09 campaign and should continue to be successful within the NEWMAC. The team will be lead by senior captains Timmy Berry, Ray Chaisson and Chris Hepp. Also returning to the squad is a group of six men who qualified for NCAA Division III championships in 2009. These athletes should provide a deep pool of talent for the team. A strong new recruiting class will beef up an already solid roster, with greater expectations of success on the returning athletes.
