 Michael Carman was one of nine swimmers to win an event as the Bears beat New Paltz NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/8/08)--Seniors Jack Sauve and Jim Okorn along with freshman Johnson Knox each won an event and were part of the winning 200 medley relay team leading Coast Guard to a 143-113 win over SUNY-New Paltz in the first dual meet of the season.
Sauve won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.89), Okorn captured the 50 freestyle (22.13) while Knox won the 100 freestyle (48.32).
Senior Ryan Taylor teamed with Sauve, Okorn and Knox to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.27. |

 Jim Okorn was a part of five winning relays as the Bears won the Union Relays SCHENECTADY, N.Y.--(11/1/08)--Senior Jim Okorn was a member of five winning relay teams as Coast Guard won the season opening Union Relays beating the host Dutchmen 122-118 for first place.
The 400 medley relay team of Ryan Taylor, Jack Sauve, Dan Alley and Okorn won with a time of 3:40.43. The 500 freestyle crescendo relay team of Johnson Knox, Okorn, Bryan Andrews and Brian McGuiness won with a time of 4:19.30. |

 Senior co-captain Jim Okorn will try to lead the Bears to a fourth straight NEWMAC championship. After graduating two classes in 2007 and 2008 which had a combined eight NCAA championship swimmers, and three straight NEWMAC championships, the Bears, who had their highest finish at the NCAA’s in 13 years last season, hopefully will continue the pattern for success again this season.
The Bears will be led by captains Jim Okorn and Chris Woods, both of whom were conference championship finalists and served to bolster a strong sprint group. Okorn was a multiple event qualifier for NCAA competition for the second year in a row, and swam on relays at the national meet. Woods is a butterfly and sprint freestyle specialist who had his strongest year last season, with lifetime best swims in all his races. |

 Bobby Brown was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(6/10/08)--Bobby Brown, who graduated from the Coast Guard Academy last month, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's at-large second team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Brown, a seven-time All-America in swimming, earned All-America status in two events, the 200 and 1,650 freestyle this season. He was also named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimmer of the Year as the led the Bears to their third straight conference championship.
Brown, who had a 3.51 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major, earn Academic All-America honors for the first time. He was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and had earned the Gold Star for Academics and been named to the Dean's List six times. He also earned the Silver Star for Military Excellence. |
