 Beth Gollin won a pair of events to lead the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/28/12)--Freshman Beth Gollin won both the 800 meters (2:26.49) and the mile (5:20.32) qualifying for the Division III New England Championships in both events as Coast Guard placed second of four teams at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational.
Westfield State won with 93.5 points, Coast Guard finished with 77.5 points followed by Trinity (37) and Eastern Connecticut (37) which tied for third.
Emily Trudeau set a school-record in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 1.25 inches while also placing second in the weight throw (43 feet, 10.75 inches). |

 Hannah Seeland placed sixth in the shot put with a career-best throw. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/21/12)--Hannah Seeland and Liz Flint were the top Coast Guard finishers as they each placed sixth and the Bears finished eighth at the nine-team Springfield Invitational.
Seeland had career-best throw of 35 feet, 8.75 inches in the shot put while Flint had a leap of 34 feet, 5.75 inches in the triple jump.
Also for the Bears, Gina Caylor was eighth in the pole vault (9-6.25), Abby Bishop was tenth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.99), Emily Trudeau was 12th in the shot put with a toss of 34 feet, 10.62 inches while Meghan Kalinowski was 14th in the mile with a time of 5:36.27.

The Bears won with 181 points while Rhode Island College was second with 131 points followed by Conn. College (123) and Merchant Marine (75).
Gollin won the mile (5:27.88) and the 800 meters (2:29.68) while Abby Bishop won the 55 meter hurdles (9.43), Meghan Kalinowski won the 3,000 meters (11:19.02) and Emily Trudeau won the shot put (11.69 meters) for Coast Guard.
Bishop was also second in the high jump (1.42 meters) while Hannah Seeland was second in both the weight throw (13.38) and the shot put (11.05).

 Elizabeth Flint is the school record holder in the triple jump. Ethan Brown begins his first season as head coach of the track and field team after serving as an assistant for the past three seasons. The Bears will be led by a solid sophomore class.

Sophomore Abby Bishop, who earned Division III All-New England honors outdoor in the heptathlon last season, is the school record holder in the pentathlon (indoors) with 2,516 points and outdoors with 4,002 point. She had an outstanding year last year and she will be contribute in several events this season.
Sophomores Emily Trudeau and Hannah Seeland will both have to step up their performances from last year. Trudeau, who earned Division III All-New England honors in the shot put and discus outdoors, was just on the heels of the outdoor shot put record (38’ 4.25”). Both Trudeau and Seeland could be competing for top spots in Division III New England championships. Seeland’s top weight throw indoors last year was 38’ 5.5”. Freshman thrower Kyle Sutschek will play a supporting role this season. |
