Men's Indoor Track - Bears Place Second at Home Invitational

Kevin O'Brien won the 3,000 meters for Coast Guard.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/28/12)--Kevin O’Brien and Trevor Siperek each won events as Coast Guard placed second of four teams at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational.

Westfield State won with 109 points, Coast Guard finished with 80 points followed by Eastern Connecticut (37) and Trinity (20).

O’Brien (9:26.11) and Joey O’Connell (9:28.09) took first and second in the 3,000 meters while Siperek won the mile with a time of 4:30.37.

The Bears 4x400 relay team of Joe Kelly, Ryan Hub, Rian Bareuther and Ben Hannon won with a time of 3:39.59 and the 4x800 relay team of Jordan Lee, Myles McCarthy, Siperek and Brad Pienta won in 8:34.98.

Men's Indoor Track - Ayotte Qualifies for NE Championship

Brian Ayotte qualified for the New England Championship in the shot put.
SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/21/12)--Bryan Ayotte placed sixth in the shot put and qualified for the Division III New England Championship at the nine-team Springfield Invitational.

Ayotte recorded a throw of 44 feet, five inches. Ben Wolhaupter was sixth in the pole vault with a jump of 13 feet, 1.5 inches.

Joe Kelly was seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 53.27 while Adam Scalesse, who only ran in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles, due to an injury, registered a time of 8.35 seconds, which ranks him eighth in the nation at the Division III level.

Men's Indoor Track - Bears Win Season Opener

Adam Scalesse won a pair of events to lead the Bears.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/14/12)--Adam Scalesse won the 55 meter hurdles and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team as Coast Guard captured the season-opening Coast Guard Winter Invitational.

The Bears won with 171.5 points edging Rhode Island College (166). Merchant Marine was third (135) while Connecticut College placed fourth with 102.5 points.

Scalesse won the 55 meter hurdles (8.05), Jordan Lee won the mile (4:39.31), Ben Wolhaupter won the pole vault (3.85 meters), Ian Ashner won the weight throw (13.5 meters), and Bryan Ayotte captured the shot put (13.27 meters).

The Bears 4x400 team of Trevor Auth, Kelcey Smith, Joe Kelly and Scalesse won with a time of 3:34.10.

Adam Scalesse is one of the top hurdlers in the Division III national rankings.
Ethan Brown begins his first season as head coach of the track and field team after serving as an assistant for the past three seasons.

Sophomore Adam Scalesse is one of the top hurdlers in the Division III national rankings and will prove to be a dominant hurdler once again this season. He competed in the NCAA Outdoor Championship last season in the 110 hurdles. Freshman Kelcey Smith will make an immediate impact in the both the 200 and 400 meters and will be a contributor in the relays.

Sophomore Ben Wolhaupter returns in the pole vault after an outstanding freshman year clearing 14' 5.25" at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Outdoor Championships last season.
