Women's Basketball - Springfield Knocks Off Bears in NEWMAC Semifinals

NORTON, MASS.--(3/1/08)--Third-seeded Springfield College saw a 10-point lead with five minutes remaining dwindle to one, but the Pride held on to defeat number two United States Coast Guard Academy, 58-57 in the semifinal round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament on Saturday in Wheaton College's Emerson Gymnasium. Five-time league champion Springfield, which is now 16-10, advanced to its seventh NEWMAC final in eight years and will face the top-seeded Lyons tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Coast Guard fell to 22-5 and awaits word on a possible ECAC bid, which will be announced on Monday.

Women's Basketball - Davis Named to Academic All-America team

DeCarol Davis, who is ranked 1st academically in the senior class, earned Academic All-America honors for the first time.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/29/08)--Coast Guard senior guard DeCarol Davis has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America college division women’s basketball third team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Davis, who has started 22 games this season, is ranked first in the senior class of 226 cadets as she carries a 3.96 GPA in Electrical Engineering. She is averaging 7.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for Coast Guard which set the single-season record for wins with 22 as the team is 22-4 overall while going 11-2 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Women's Basketball - Moyer Leads Bears to NEWMAC Semifinals

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/27/08)--New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Player of the Year candidate Natalie Moyer led all scorers with 22 points to go with her season-high 13 rebounds and game-high five steals as second-seeded Coast Guard beat seventh-seeded Clark 56-43 in the first round of the NEWMAC tournament.

Coast Guard (22-4), which advances to the semifinals for just the second time in the 10-year history of the NEWMAC, will now play third-seeded Springfield in the semifinals at top-seeded Wheaton on Saturday at 3 p.m. The championship game will be at Wheaton on Sunday at 1 p.m. Wheaton will host fourth-seeded WPI in the first semifinal on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Women's Basketball - Bears Roll to Victory on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/23/08)--Sophomore Melissa Martinelli had a game-high 24 points to go with her 10 rebounds while senior Corinne McCormack had 14 points and 14 rebounds as Coast Guard swept the regular season series with Springfield for the first time, closing out the regular season with a 69-46 win over the Pride in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Senior Day.

Second-seeded Coast Guard and third-seeded Springfield will both host NEWMAC tournament first round games on Wednesday. Coast Guard could have won its first ever NEWMAC regular season championship with a Wheaton loss, but Wheaton clinched the regular season championship and top-seed with a 71-50 win over Clark. The Bears will host seventh-seeded Clark in the first round.
