Women's Basketball - Fast Start Leads WPI Past Bears

WORCESTER, MASS.--(1/23/10)--WPI jumped out to a 23-2 lead and the Engineers cruised to a 59-40 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

WPI (11-6, 7-3) scored the first ten points of the game, six of those by junior Elle Fontaine, before junior Allison Majcher got the Bears on the board with 15:01 left in the first half, that would be the Bears only points until a 3-pointer by sophomore Rebekah Seifer with 8:51 left in the opening half made the score 23-5.

Coast Guard (4-9, 3-7) was just one of nine from the floor to start the game while WPI hit on eight of 14 to build the 23-2 advantage with 9:40 left in the half. The Bears also turned the ball over 12 times in the opening 11 minutes.

Women's Basketball - Bears Drop Fourth Straight

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS.--(1/20/10)--Mount Holyoke held Coast Guard to one field goal over the final 12 minutes of the first half and outscored the Bears 16-2 enroute to a 56-38 win in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Angelica Pacual led all scorers with 15 points while Jess Olson and Erin Cain each added 11 points for Mount Holyoke which ran its win streak to a pair.

Coast Guard (4-8, 3-6) jumped out to an early 9-4 lead following a 3-pointer by freshman Vanessa Sillman with 16:38 left in the first half and the Bears took a 13-11 lead on a basket by senior Carin Sweeney with 12:12 left in the first half.

Women's Basketball - Babson Downs Bears

Melissa Martinelli led the Bears with 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the loss.
BABSON PARK, MASS.--(1/16/10)--Kathleen King had 16 points and Michelle Kinel added 15 points as Babson remained unbeaten in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 76-52 win over Coast Guard.

Babson (12-3, 8-0), which ran its win streak to four, used a 17-3 run in the first half turning an 8-8 tie with 16:06 left in the first half into a 25-11 cushion with 8:35 left in the half.

The Beavers led by as many as 22 in the first half and led 47-28 at halftime as they shot 52.6 percent (20-38) in the opening stanza and outrebounded the Bears 25-14.

Babson outscored the Bears 14-2 to start the second half taking a commanding 61-30 lead with 14:07 left.

Women's Basketball - Bears Lose to Springfield

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/13/10)--Springfield jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never trailed beating Coast Guard 53-38 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Coast Guard pulled to within 10-9 with 11:14 left before Springfield used a 10-2 run capped by a 3-pointer by sophomore Kelly Murphy to take a 20-11 lead with 6:01 left. The Pride led 26-16 at halftime.

Springfield (6-8, 4-3) used a 14-2 run in the second half to put the game away as the Pride turned a 30-20 edge with 16:23 left into a 44-22 lead with 10:29 left in the game. The final five of those points by junior Rachelle Walker.
