 Melissa Martinelli led the Bears with 24 points in the loss. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/6/10)--Senior Berit Schelde led three Smith players in double figures with 14 points and the Pioneers shot 50 percent from the floor enroute to a 57-48 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference game.
Smith (11-8, 8-6), shot 55 percent (11-20) in the first half while holding Coast Guard to just 19 percent (4-21) in the first half. The Pioneers held Coast Guard to just two field goals over the final 13 minutes of the first half and led 28-15 at halftime.
The Pioneers outscored Coast Guard 13-4 to start the second half and open up their largest lead of the game at 41-19 with 15:14 left.
Later in the half, Coast Guard (5-14, 3-11) scored eight straight, the first six by senior Melissa Martinelli as the Bears cut the deficit to 50-38 with 5:06 left, but Shelde then scored four straight to put the game away for the Pioneers. |

 Melissa Martinelli scored 27 points after going for 32 points on Monday night. WELLESLEY, MASS.--(2/3/10)--Wellesley held Coast Guard to just one basket in the final five minutes and shot 60 percent from 3-point range and beat the Bears 67-52 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Wellesley led 51-48 with 5:06 left and outscored the Bears 16-4 to close out the game.

 Melissa Martinelli had 29 points in the second half and finished with a season-high 32 points in the win. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/2/10)--Senior Melissa Martinelli had a huge second half as she erupted for 29 of her season-high 32 points in the final 20 minutes as Coast Guard snapped its eight-game losing streak with a 64-47 win over neighbor and rival host Connecticut College in a non-conference game.
Coast Guard scored a season-high 64 points and beat Conn. College for the fourth straight season.
Martinelli, who also had a game-high 13 rebounds, was just one of two from the floor with three points in the first half as she played just 11 minutes with two fouls, but she was unstoppable in the second half as she scored 17 of the Bears first 20 points and scored back-to-back baskets to open the second half giving the Bears a 22-14 edge with 18:50 left. She was eight of 12 from the floor in the second half to finish 9 for 14 for the game. |

 Melissa Martinelli led the Bears with 17 points and seven rebounds. NORTON, MASS.--(1/30/10)--Senior Jenny Champney and freshman Jeana Trimboli combined to score 29 of Wheaton's 51 points leading the Lyons to a 51-42 over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Wheaton, which improves to 12-7 overall and 9-3 in the NEWMAC, picked up its third straight victory over the Bears for the first time since the 1998-99 through 2000-01 seasons. Coast Guard dropped its eighth straight game to fall to 4-12 and 3-9.
Champney shot 5-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe for 16 points to go alongside five rebounds. Trimboli tacked on 13 points and three steals. Senior Andrea Bailey contributed five points, five boards and six assists. |
