Women's Basketball - Moyer Scores 27 as Bears Remain in First Place

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/13/08)--Senior Natalie Moyer led all scorers with 27 points to go with a career-high eight steals as Coast Guard won its fourth straight and remained in first place in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 72-54 win over Clark.

Freshman Jennifer Tamminen keyed an 11-2 spurt with six points as Coast Guard turned an 18-17 deficit with 8:38 left in the first half into a 28-20 lead with 6:09 left. The Bears led 35-26 at halftime with Moyer leading all scorers with 13 first half points while Tamminen had 10 points in the first 20 minutes.

Women's Basketball - Martinelli Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/11/08)--Coast Guard Academy sophomore Melissa Martinelli was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week as Coast Guard won all three games including the school-record 17th of the season.

Martinelli, who won the NEWMAC Player of the Week honors for the third time this season, averaged 19.3 points and 12 rebounds as Coast Guard moved into first place in the conference as the Bears handed Wheaton, which was 8-0 in the NEWMAC, its first conference loss of the season, 76-61.

Women's Basketball - Bears Set Single-Season Record with 17th Win

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/9/08)--Senior Natalie Moyer had 23 points while sophomore Melissa Martinelli added 21 points as Coast Guard set the single-season school record for wins and handed Wheaton its first conference loss of the season, pulling into a first place tie in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with the Lyons as the Bears posted a 76-61 win.

Coast Guard, which made a season-high 11 three-point field goals and shot a season-high 44 percent (11-25) from 3-point range, and Wheaton are now tied for first in the conference with 8-1 records. The Bears, who won their third straight and now hold the tiebreaker over the Lyons, are now 17-3 overall while Wheaton, had its four-game winning streak snapped and drops to 15-6.

Women's Basketball - Davis Named to Academic All-District First team

DeCarol Davis was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team for the second straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/7/08)--Coast Guard senior guard DeCarol Davis has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I college division women’s basketball first team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Davis, who has started 15 games this season, is ranked first in the senior class of 226 cadets as she carries a 3.96 GPA in Electrical Engineering. She is averaging 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for Coast Guard which has already tied the single-season record for wins with 16 as the team is 16-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
