Women's Basketball - Bears Lose at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(2/1/12)--Solid defensive play that generated 19 points off of 19 first-half Coast Guard turnovers propelled host MIT to a 45-34 victory in a NEWMAC women’s basketball game on Wednesday night.

The win not only ended the Engineers’ three-game skid but also resulted in their second consecutive series sweep of the Bears. Freshman Mari Kordell registered a game-high 13 points and five assists while fellow classmate Alexxis Isaac racked up 12 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals for MIT.

Freshman Victoria Gurtler led Coast Guard’s balanced attack with nine points to go along with six rebounds.

Women's Basketball - Bears Lose to Conn. College

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/30/12)--Senior Jenn Shinall had 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first half leading host Connecticut College to a 67-38 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game between the two neighboring schools.

BOX SCORE

Shinall was a red hot six of seven from three-point range while making seven of 12 from the floor while sophomore Tara Gabelman finished with 13 points in the win.

The Camels improved to 15-4 overall while Coast Guard dropped its seventh straight to dip to 5-12 on the season.

Conn. College jumped out to a 20-2 lead with 10:57 left in the first half and never looked back. Shinall had 10 of the Camels first 20 points to start the game.

Women's Basketball - Clark's Hot Shooting Downs Bears

Kaitlin Ward had a team-high 14 points for Coast Guard.
NEW LONDON, CONN--(1/28/12)--Sophomore Megan Grondin led all scorers with 20 points while classmate Emily Reilly added 16 and senior Kate Minster 14 points leading Clark to a 84-59 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

BOX SCORE

Grondin, Reilly and Minster combined for 50 points shooting a sizzling 83 percent from the floor (19 of 23), including five for five from three-point range. Grondin was nine of 12, Reilly was five of six and made her only trey while Minister was a perfect five for five from the floor and four of four from three-point range as Clark shot 61.5 percent in the game (35-52), including 68 percent in the second half (17-25). The Cougars also made seven of 10 from three-point range in the game.

The game was tied 21-21 with 8:26 left in the first half before the Cougars used a 20-4 spurt to end the half taking a 41-25 lead at halftime. Minister had a pair of three-pointers in the run while Grondin had three buckets.

Women's Basketball - Bears Fall to Wheaton

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/25/12)--Freshman Abbie Brickley had a game-high 16 points to give Wheaton a 60-44 win over Coast Guard in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

BOX SCORE

Seniors Gabbie DePalo and Nicole Cullinane each added 13 points to help the Lyons (8-10, 6-5 NEWMAC) pick up their fifth win in their last seven games. Defensively, the Lyons held the Bears (5-10, 1-10 NEWMAC) to 25.4 pct. shooting (15-of-59) and outrebounded them 43-37.

The Lyons took a 29-20 lead into the locker room at halftime behind 11 points from Brickley and eight from Cullinane. Wheaton - which shot 43.3 pct. in the first half - closed the half on a 9-0 run, sparked by a pair of buckets from Brickley and a triple by Cullinane.
