Women's Basketball - Martinelli Earns Pair of All-Region Honors

Melissa Martinelli earned a pair of All-Region selections.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/17/10)--Senior Melissa Martinelli, the Bears all-time leading scorer and rebounder, earned a pair of All-region honors on Wednesday.

She was named to the D3hoops.com and New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-region second team. Martinelli makes her third straight appearance on the D3hoops.com after earning first team honors the past two seasons. She earns NEWBA honors for the second straight season after being a first team selection last year.

Martinelli was named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball All-conference first team for the third straight season. She was the 2007 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.

She led the NEWMAC this season in scoring (19.4), rebounding (8.5) as well as free throw percentage (.747) and she was fifth in conference in field goal percentage (.481).

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/2/10)--Senior Melissa Martinelli was named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball All-conference first team in voting by the leagues ten head coaches.

Martinelli led the NEWMAC in scoring (19.4), rebounding (8.5) as well as free throw percentage (.747) and she was fifth in field goal percentage (.481).

She earns first team All-conference honors for the third straight season after being named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year in 2007.

This season, she had 20 or more points in 11 games with seven double-doubles.

Women's Basketball - Top-Seeded Babson Knocks Out Bears

Melissa Martinelli had a double-double in the final game of her outstanding career.
BABSON PARK, MASS.--(2/24/10)--Babson began the defense of its 2009 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title in impressive fashion on Wednesday night, as the top-seeded Beavers defeated the eighth-seeded United States Coast Guard Academy, 75-26, in the quarterfinals of the 2010 NEWMAC Championship Tournament.

The Beavers, who matched the longest win streak in program history with their 15th consecutive victory, improved to 23-3 and will move on to host both the semifinals and finals this weekend. Babson will play fourth-seeded Wheaton in the first semifinal matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m., while sixth-seeded Wellesley will face either second-seeded WPI or seventh-seeded Mount Holyoke in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. The two winners will then meet in the Championship Game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Women's Basketball - Clark Wins, but Coast Guard Makes Tourney

Melissa Martinelli led the way with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
WORCESTER, MASS.--(2/20/10)--Behind a balanced scoring attack that only one player reached double figures, Clark cruised to a season-ending 58-47 win over visiting Coast Guard in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game, the regular season finale.

Clark and Coast Guard finished tied for eighth place with 4-14 conference records, but despite the loss today the Bears did qualify for the conference tournament thanks to a MIT win over Smith giving the Bears the tiebreaker over the Cougars for the eighth and final tournament spot.

Eighth-seeded Coast Guard will play at top-seeded Babson on Wednesday night, the Beavers went a perfect 18-0 in conference play during the regular season.

Clark came out firing, making 50 percent of their first half shots, including a 6-for-10 performance from behind the arc.
