NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/17/07)--Sophomore Melissa Martinelli has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the final Player of the Week in the first semester.

Martinelli had 20 points and nine rebounds while shooting 8 for 14 from the floor in a loss to New England power Eastern Connecticut, which improved to 10-0.

She is second on the team with 15 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Coast Guard is off to it best start in school history with a 7-2 record in the first semester.
 
Women's Basketball - ECSU Snaps Bears Win Streak
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/12/07)--Junior Ashley McFetridge had 25 points while senior Stephanie Smith added 24 points as Eastern Connecticut remained unbeaten by beating Coast Guard 79-62 in a non-conference game, the final game of the semester for both teams.

The Warriors used an 11-2 run in the first half turning a 7-5 deficit into a 16-9 lead with 11:51 left. Eastern Connecticut led 37-28 at halftime as the Warriors made 18 of 21 from the foul line in the first 20 minutes and shot 9 for 19 from the field.

Women's Basketball - Big Second Half Leads Bears Past Salve

NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(12/8/07)--Sophomore Melissa Martinelli had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the second half after playing just seven minutes in the first half with foul trouble and the Bears used a 14-1 run in the second half as Coast Guard improved its school record best start to 7-1 with a 67-58 win over Salve Regina in a non-conference game.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first two minutes before Salve Regina (4-3), which was an NCAA Tournament team last season, used a 14-4 run to take its first lead of the game 16-14 with 11:37 left in the first half.

Women's Basketball - Bears Win Again; Off to Best Start in History

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/6/07)--Senior Natalie Moyer led all scorers with 21 points while sophomore Melissa Martinelli had 18 points and a season-high 17 rebounds as Coast Guard beat Johnson & Wales 68-59 to improve to 6-1 on the season, the best start in school history.

Senior Corinne McCormack had a double-double for the Bears with 10 points and 14 rebounds while freshman Jennifer Tamminen had 16 points and nine rebounds for Coast Guard (6-1).

Coast Guard used a an 11-2 run in the first half to take its largest lead of the half, 28-16 with 7:31 left before Johnson & Wales closed the gap to five by scoring the final five points of the half making the score 34-29.
