Women's Basketball - Martinelli Leads Bears past St. Joseph 63-56

Freshman Melissa Martinelli had a career-high 28 points and 20 rebounds.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/9/06)--Freshman Melissa Martinelli had career-high’s with 28 points and 20 rebounds leading Coast Guard to a come-from-behind 63-56 overtime win over St. Joseph of Hartford in a non-conference game.

Coast Guard scored the first 10 points of the overtime period as St. Joseph did not score in overtime until a basket by junior Samantha Krupa with 37 seconds left.

The Bears were 10 for 12 from the foul line in the overtime period with junior DeCarol Davis going a perfect six for six from the line in the final 50 seconds of overtime.

St. Joseph (2-7) led 27-20 at halftime as the Bears were 0 for 13 from three-point range in the first half.

Women's Basketball - Bears Fall at Johnson & Wales
PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- (12/7/06)--Johnson & Wales posted a 67-58 victory over Coast Guard in a non-conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.

Johnson & Wales had four players in double figures, including senior Samantha Cowens who registered a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds while sophomore Johanna Santosuossa added 13 points, three boards and two assists in the victory. Sophomore Maria Valletta and sophomore Shannon Hunter each scored 11 points while freshman Alexia Ramirez rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Wildcats with 11 points in the victory.

Women's Basketball - Wesleyan uses 30-8 Spurt to Down Bears 67-60
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/6/06)--Wesleyan used a 30-8 spurt over the span of 13 minutes in the first half and the Cardinals used a 15-2 run to start the second half enroute to a 67-60 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 9-3 lead with 16:45 left in the first half before Wesleyan outscored the Bears 30-8 over the next 13 minutes to take at 33-17 lead with 3:44 left. Wesleyan led 38-26 at halftime. Coast Guard was hurt by 16 first half turnovers.

Women's Basketball - Moyer Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

Natalie Moyer was named NEWMAC Player of the Week.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/4/06)--Coast Guard Academy junior Natalie Moyer has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Moyer averaged 25.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, three assists and three steals a game as Coast Guard went a perfect 3-0 on the week with wins over Anna Maria, Albertus Magnus and Trinity.

Moyer tied the school record with nine three-pointers, hitting nine of 18, as she finished with 40 points in the win over Anna Maria.

She shot 38.3 percent from the field (23-60), 33.3 percent from three-point range (12-36) and 78.3 percent from the foul line (18-23).

Moyer leads the NEWMAC in scoring (22.4 ppg.) and three-pointers made per game (3.6).
