Women's Basketball - Coast Guard Loses to Springfield

Alexi Howland had 12 points to lead the Bears.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/8/12)--Kelly Slattery had a career-high 28 points leading Springfield to a 56-47 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

BOX SCORE

Springfield snaps a two-game slide and improves to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in conference action while the Bears dropped to 5-15 overall and 1-14 in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead in this contest after just four and a half minutes of play on the strength of three threes. But Springfield ran off a 7-0 spurt thee minutes later, knotting the score at 9-9.

Women's Basketball - Bears Fall at Smith

Brittney Zimmerman had a game-high 14 points.
NORTHAMPTON, MASS.--(2/4/12)--Rosa Drummond, Paulina Solis, and Maddie Page each scored 12 points leading Smith to a 73-51 win over Coast Guard in a NEWMAC game.

The win improves Smith's overall record to 16-4, with an 11-3 NEWMAC record. Coast Guard falls to 5-14, and 1-3 NEWMAC with their ninth straight loss.

Drummond got things going by draining a three on the first possesion of the game, and Amanda Zakoske fed Lizzy BelBruno for a hoop and a quick 5-0 lead. A pair of baskets from the Bears' Alexa Hunko trimmed the deficit to one, but Smith pulled out to a 13-6 advantage on Solis' fast break layup.

Women's Basketball - Bears Lose at MIT

Victoria Gurtler led the Bears with nine points and six rebounds.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.--(2/1/12)--Solid defensive play that generated 19 points off of 19 first-half Coast Guard turnovers propelled host MIT to a 45-34 victory in a NEWMAC women’s basketball game on Wednesday night.

The win not only ended the Engineers’ three-game skid but also resulted in their second consecutive series sweep of the Bears. Freshman Mari Kordell registered a game-high 13 points and five assists while fellow classmate Alexxis Isaac racked up 12 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals for MIT.

Freshman Victoria Gurtler led Coast Guard’s balanced attack with nine points to go along with six rebounds.

Women's Basketball - Bears Lose to Conn. College

Jamie Waterman had all eight of her points in the second half.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/30/12)--Senior Jenn Shinall had 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first half leading host Connecticut College to a 67-38 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game between the two neighboring schools.

BOX SCORE

Shinall was a red hot six of seven from three-point range while making seven of 12 from the floor while sophomore Tara Gabelman finished with 13 points in the win.

The Camels improved to 15-4 overall while Coast Guard dropped its seventh straight to dip to 5-12 on the season.

Conn. College jumped out to a 20-2 lead with 10:57 left in the first half and never looked back. Shinall had 10 of the Camels first 20 points to start the game.
