 Jevon James registered his second double-double of the season in the win. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(1/21/09)--Sophomore Jevon James scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, both game-high figures, and the Bears scored the final 11 points of the game as Coast Guard won its first conference game of the season with a 54-41 victory over Springfield in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game.
With the win, Coast Guard is now 8-8 overall, 1-4 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield is now 7-9 overall, and 0-4 in league play.
James, who registered his second double-double of the season, scored eight of his 16 points in the first half, when the Bears took a 21-17 lead. In fact, Coast Guard scored the first eight points of the game, four by senior forward Craig Johnson in the first 4:16 of play. But Springfield then snapped to life by scoring the next nine points, four by senior center John Strawson, two by senior guard Danny White and a three-pointer by sophomore forward Matt Cavalieri with 9:52 remaining. |

 Craig Johnson moved into second place on the Bears' all-time scoring list . NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/17/09)--Freshman Anthony Weeks tied a career-high with 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds leading Wheaton to its third straight win, a 65-58 victory over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Wheaton shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half (13-26) and took a 31-23 lead into the break with Weeks leading the way with 12 first half points on five of six shooting.
Coast Guard (7-8, 0-4) got as close as two points, 34-32 on a basket by sophomore Jevon James with 16:20 left, but the Lyons scored eight straight, five by junior Jaxon Leo as the Lyons took a 42-32 lead, its largest of the game with 13:44 left. |

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/14/09)--Senior Jimmy Bartolotta iced MIT’s first-ever 3-0 start to NEWMAC play with four free-throws in the final 30 seconds as the Engineers held off a late rally by Coast Guard to win its second league date on the road, 75-72. The Engineers trailed 9-0 six minutes into the action, but rallied to equal their entire conference win total of last year.
MIT (11-4, 3-0) senior Billy Johnson led all scorers with 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. The deep ball plagued Coast Guard (7-7, 0-3) all evening as the Engineers finished a blistering 13-of-23 from beyond the arc as a team.
Bartolotta added 24 points for the Engineers on 5-of-10 shooting. He scored 18 of his points in the second half, while doing most of his damage at the free-throw line where he closed 11-of-13. Bartolotta added a game and season-high 12 rebounds for the double-double. |

NEW LONDON, CONN.--Junior Shavar Bernier was five for seven from 3-point range as Connecticut College shot 56.5 percent, connecting on 13 of 23 from behind the arc and beat rival and host Coast Guard 78-70 in the meeting between the neighboring schools.
The Camels (9-4) shot 63.6 percent hitting seven of 11 from 3-point range in the first half building a 43-29 lead at the half. Conn. College shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first half (15-27).
Coast Guard (7-6) which trailed by as many as 16 in the second half at 45-29, cut the lead to six at 59-53 on a 3-pointer by freshman Theo Jensen with 6:23 left, but the Camels used a 10-3 spurt to push the lead to 13 at 69-56 with 3:53 left. |
