BABSON PARK, MASS.--(2/14/09)--Senior Craig Johnson recorded eight points and one key assist in the final nine minutes to lead visiting Coast Guard to a hard-fought 53-51 come-from-behind victory over host Babson in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s basketball contest at Staake Gymnasium.
Babson scored the first 15 points of the game and Coast Guard made a huge comeback for the second straight Saturday, as the Bears trailed 16-2 at MIT last Saturday before coming back to win in overtime. |

 Craig Johnson became the Bears' all-time leading scorer passing last year's teammate Jeff Prebeck. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/11/09)--Senior Craig Johnson had 26 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high seven assists, all game-highs and he became Coast Guard’s all-time leading scorer as the Bears beat Clark 79-59 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Johnson needed five points to set the school scoring mark and he did so on a layup with 15:52 left in the first half, part of three-point play. Jeff Prebeck, who graduated last season held the record with 1,614 points. Johnson, who was 11 for 14 from the field, finished the game with 1,636 points.
Coast Guard (10-11, 3-7) used a 17-2 run in the first half turning a 16-16 tie with 12:12 left into a 33-18 lead with 6:48 left in the half. The Bears shot 58.1 percent from the field in the first half (18 of 31) and led 42-26 at halftime. |

 Craig Johnson earned NEWMAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/9/09)--Coast Guard Academy senior Craig Johnson has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Johnson knocked MIT out of a first place tie as he hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer of regulation and last place Coast Guard overcame a 16-2 deficit for a 67-63 overtime win. It was MIT’s first home loss of the season in ten games.
He had 20 of his team-high 22 points in the second half and overtime in the win while also grabbing 13 rebounds. He averaged 19.5 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 54.5 percent (12-22) from the floor and 70 percent (14-20) from the line in a 1-1 week as the Bears snapped a three-game losing streak. |

 Craig Johnson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to OT as the Bears knocked off MIT. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/7/09)--Senior Craig Johnson, who had 20 of his team-high 22 points in the second half, hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and the Bears, who trailed 16-2 to start the game, rallied for a 67-63 overtime win over MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Jimmy Bartolotta, who finished with a game-high 38 points, scored the first basket of overtime giving MIT a 63-61 lead. Junior Eric Hudson tied the game for Coast Guard with 2:17 left.
Johnson made a pair of free throws with 1:30 left, Hudson made one of two with 12.3 left and Johnson sealed the come-from-behind win with one of two freebies with 2.1 seconds left. |
